
Tyra Fenton captured gold in the Under-17 girls’ 100 metres at the 53rd CARIFTA Games, winning a photo finish after she and The Bahamas’ Jazae Johnson both clocked 11.30 seconds at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium in Grenada.
Johnson settled for silver, while compatriot Brion Ward took bronze in 11.63 seconds. Jamaica’s Azaria Harris (11.73) finished fourth, followed by Trinidad and Tobago’s Jael Peters (11.87).
Fenton’s victory capped an outstanding day, having earlier secured bronze in the Under-17 girls’ 400 metres in a championship record time of 52.62 seconds.
She had signalled her form early, winning her 400m semi-final in 55.51 seconds and posting a personal best of 11.44 seconds in the 100m heats.
