  1. That’s the second person this year run over on friars… people drive like idiots on this road; taking over, speeding and using the middle lanes as a second lane, no one gives a shit.
    R.I.P pour lady:(

      • First and foremost, let me say condolences to the family of the deceased. I feel so bad about the situation.

I totally agree that this road/highway NEED TO GET LIGHTING (from the round-about at Lion’s Den/Y.M.C.A. going all the way North.

I actually drove it one night to see for myself because someone had brought it to my attention and I wanted to see for myself before I spoke about it on-air.

I did speak about it on-air, MONTHS TO ALMOST A YEAR AGO, but for whatever the reason this matter has not been addressed.

IT CANNOT BE that the lighting situation as it is RIGHT NOW is what it is suppose to be.

  2. Very Sad. RIP. A family are in pain today and will forever grieve.

What are we betting SPEEDING DRIVER was the cause? At 3.20am in the night that seems likely.

HAS THE DRIVER BEEN HELD? LICENSE & INSURANCE REMOVED PENDING INVESTIGATION?
    if not, why not?

Will wait on police report as it might be the driver ‘lost control’ and maybe ‘the lamp post was moving’ and maybe the driver ‘forgot their glasses or was wearing shades’ and didn’t see see the poor woman.

  3. ANR this is shocking and sad new news.
Curios as to your reason for placing the report below yesterday’s more political news?

  4. The driver is was of Syrian decent, from what I saw when I passed, the little old lady was flung some distance from where the vehicle stopped? So for sure they were doing some.numbers

  5. A Gray Vitz, A51643 was being driven at excessive speed almost ran into the side of Kia Sportage Jeep and narrowly missed a head on collision with an on coming vehicle which had to quickly swerve to the side almost running off the road between Lics and Midway Service Station. Whoever was driving that car needs to be changed for wreckless driving. I wish I had a dash camera the tourists I was transporting were so terrified omg!!!

  7. When the road programme commenced we were told that the repaired roadways would be completed with drains and sidewalks. Neither are present on Friar’s Hill Rd nor Sir George Walter Highway. We have an atrocious public transpirtation system so it is expected that there will be pedestrians on the road at odd hours. From the looks of things, the repairs to Sir Sydney Walling Highway will be no different – not a hint of drains or sidewalks in sight

  8. Friars Hill Road is a death trap. You would drive on that road at your own risks and detriments. Those drivers turning from the middle lanes and those coming onto that road from the side roads do not wait. They would push out in front of on coming traffic. A long time ago I made a recommendation that they should build a pedestrian walkover to avoid persons walking across Friars Hill Road at its busiest areas. We need to put persons into Management Positions with forward thinking ideas. Antigua needs to be further ahead than where it is presently. Condolences to the family, friends and love ones of the decedent.

  9. The road need lights not making any excuses but certain areas need light it can help… Also we need to be a bit more careful

  10. The design only called for sidewalks from west indies oil to lions den, that is all that was requested by the government. Many sidewalks were removed from the design, as in the governments haste to earn money, and ignore international norms, land was sold too close to the existing road way. This is why you will notice it is only two lanes approaching the roundabout at lions den, the government failed to engage with the public, and decided to ask for a narrowingof the road width, and omission of sidewalks on the left side (driving in to town).
The issue with drainage on Friars hill is once again a government affair. Underground drainage, discharging into Woods, and outside the brewery was proposed, but a statement of ‘we do not wish to maintain it’ led to the current situation of ditches and kerb inlets, which frequently need to be cleaned out (and has never happened).
The Lighting was supposed to be installed before the project ended by APUA. APUA were given every street pole position multiple times the whole length of the road. A grant was issued to get tens of thousands of new street lights for the whole island (where did they end up?).
