The crime rate is too high in Antigua for a tourism destination. It’s not safe anymore. You have to drive with a cutlass for these thugs.
Many may say that this has nothing to do with politics..wrong wrong wrong.
Policies dictates governance, so this crime wave is directly related to the policies of the leader in the highest office of the land, and his policies,is to have open boarder and have any and anyone settle in Antigua without any papers whatsoever, or without the proper vetting practices that is conducive to a safe and transparent immigration system.
When you have a country that have a severe immigration problem like Antigua, then these types of crimes will go up, and you will always see criminals resort to these kinds of senseless crimes so they can feed themselves.
When you don’t have papers, then it’s hard to find work, and when you do find work, 99% of the time,it’s under the table, and not at a good steady living wage, like legal residents, because people will more than likely take advantage of your situation.
So this is where the problem is with most of these types of crimes, because we all know that in most tourist islands in the Caribbean, it’s one thing you do not do, is to mess with the tourist sector from where so many earn there living.

How you know some non nationals not committing most of the crimes? You forget police not finding them so they can’t be in prison. In the past when someone was unemployed and didn’t have food, there was no need to steal as the family and friends would help them out. And as you say, Antiguans can always live in their grandparents and great grandparents old house. Antigua is now like Jamaica.
When I go to the USA I don’t find abandoned street in the Bronx or ghetto to walk, it see to me as soon as the leave the ship is to go look drugs, because I see them leave gone in the ghetto here in Antigua in some remote areas, that will only lead to robbery.
