Fatal Crash Case Involving AUA Students Faces Delays in Court Proceedings

Karim Edwards, accused of causing a fatal accident involving two American University of Antigua students, has not had his case forwarded to a higher court yet.

The collision on October 23, 2022, resulted in the death of 21-year-old Kenneth Mathew and severe injuries to Priyanjana Das, then 19.

Edwards, initially charged with dangerous driving, now faces an upgraded charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

Despite over a year passing, the police have not completed their file.

The committal hearing, scheduled at the St. John’s Magistrate’s Court, was postponed to May 9, causing further delays in the resolution of the case.

  1. Once again, the delay in bringing this case forward to a higher court reeks of some sort of protection for the perpetrator.

The relatives of the deceased and injured must be absolutely fuming with rage.

The Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin should intervene, but we all know he won’t.

IF THOSE AT THE TOP ROTTEN, WHAT HOPE IS THERE FOR THIS COUNTRY?

  2. Once again…the corruption in Antigua stinks to high heavens.

All these damn judges and prosecutors are corrupt to high heavens, and are in conclusion with the higher ups to keep Antiguan’s in the dark.

@Brix. This AG would not move a damn muscle, not when it’s his people that are caught up with law. It’s just as simple as it gets, this, our country, is doomed under this Administration.

  3. You forget how long dem tap fi release he name ? Once you know he was headed north on Friars Hill rd you done know he gonna be under protection. While they could have been helped he carried on driving and started coming up with his story instead. I hope you get to enjoy the “VIP Seat” in 1735 very soon you wutliss f*kka

  4. What’s taking the police so long with their report? Who’s in charge of this matter? Is someone with authority in the police force getting paid on the down-low to keep delaying this case? It appears as if the delays will be continuous until any pertinent info disappears. It’s reasonable to call out the police commissioner now. Time for Antiguans of conscience to put this on social media and make it go viral. Everyone should be held accountable for their actions — people’s class in society shouldn’t place them above the law.

  8. Why all y’all so evil and lub ugly? It was an accident and it can happen to anyone of us. I am a driver also and a careful one, but sometimes, u look off for 2 seconds and have to slam on the brakes. Can you imagine the burden he will have to carry for the rest of his life. I’m sure he is already paying the price. There are no winners in this matter.

    • No one is looking to win anything here. He committed a crime and justice calls for his punishment.
If he was a man of conscience he would not have left the scene of the accident. He clearly lacks the decency required to be considered a moral human being.
How dare your try to lecture those who supports the victims families.
