“Family Files Lawsuit Against Clarevue Psychiatric Hospital in Antigua and Barbuda Over Daughter’s Death and Alleged Negligence”

SOURCE: DNO-A Dominican family has filed a lawsuit against the Clarevue Psychiatric Hospital in Antigua and Barbuda.

Norma George, whose daughter died at the facility last year has been trying to obtain the autopsy for several months.

Now the examination report has indicated that Lateefa George, a 27-year-old, likely passed away due to brain trauma, oxygen deprivation, and infection, possibly accelerated by poison.

The details were presented in a post-mortem report carried out at Holberton Hospital on February 9, 2024, by pathologist Dr. P. Miller Nanton. Dr. Nanton suggested that Lateefa’s demise “may have been hastened by poison or chemicals.”

The pathologist’s written opinion attributed the death to a blood clot, brain swelling, and a lower respiratory tract infection.

The post-mortem report revealed that Lateefa had a subgaleal hematoma in the right frontal area, indicating head trauma.

Brain swelling, which can result from injury, infection, or certain medical conditions, was also observed.

Furthermore, the autopsy showed evidence of oxygen deprivation leading to hypoxia, as well as blood clots obstructing the pulmonary arteries in both lungs.

Additionally, there was thick green mucus in the tracheobronchial trees, indicating a lower respiratory tract infection.

Lateefa’s parents have taken legal action against the hospital and the Attorney General for negligence.

In their lawsuit, filed today, they claim that the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda failed to properly investigate the circumstances surrounding their daughter’s death.

The parents allege that Clarevue neglected the deceased in the women’s detention area and administered poison or an overdose of drugs or medication inappropriately.

They also accuse both the hospital and the Ministry of Health of failing to conduct a timely and thorough investigation despite public assurances.

  1. About time cause they can’t give a reason why or what really happened….. Antigua running g like a Mafia town for way to lol .

  2. Antigua is full of criminals dealing with everyday operations with vulnerable people. Many psicopats (man and woman) under the helm of bulls.. Medicare umbrella. Even all the damn people working with the legal fraternity ( their are afraid of this shady people ) is matter of time their gonna dealing with you.

  3. I hope that this family receives justice and that there is reform after this case. I hope that this family wins their case and out medical professionals on notice that their job is to preserve life. Sometimes our doctors and nurses are too flippant with the care of patients entrusted to them. A strong message need to be sent that negligence within that profession will not be tolerated.

  4. Justice for this young lady, far too long the Clarevue Psychiatric medical practitioners have been treating mental patients like test subjects…. injecting all sorts of chemicals at random dosage with out reevaluation especially those on long term treatment. If patients express themselves or ask questions they take it that they are acting up, arent mental patients human ? They refuse to give clear answers to caretakers and treat you as though you are at their mercy when you ask questions ( technically you are so you better no ask them nothing)…. sad sad a life was lost…. let justice prevail !!! Let them feel the full force of the law and just maybe then they be forced to rethink their approach.
