The Cabinet agreed to establish a BLUE ECONOMY Unit, under the Minister responsible for this subject.
Antigua and Barbuda’s territorial seas exceed the 170 square-mile limit of its land surface more than tenfold.
The Blue Economy seeks to maximize this untapped resource by bringing expertise to the Unit which could propose various uses, including fishing of course.
The parties that are to comprise this Unit will be drawn from those who are now employed within the public service so that there will be no additional salaries expense incurred by the Treasury.

In theory this is OK
IF the necessary knowledge, technical & business acumen resides within the available public servants that will be utilized;
that technicians in the Environment Division are absolutely on point regarding review of all ‘schemes’ and stopping any and all further marine environment degradation (Yida project & lack of teeth by Environment Division versus the $ is a case in point);
that the Minister has the intellectual capacity to rapidly get up to speed in this fast developing arena (sadly his track record on speaking about women regarding Gender Affairs leaves much wanting).
I note the thrust to monetize our marine environment, which is well & good IF the marine biosphere is not only protected but replenished & rejuvenated so it’s value remains for our great grandchildren.
Now they are finally recognizing the #real #value of REDONDA.
