
A Virtual Opening Ceremony of the Esports Club Antigua will be held this evening.

In March 2021, US Embassy Bridgetown invited applicats to submit an application for ECA funding to support an esports club in Antigua and Barbuda.
Elijah James, a 2017 YLAI alumnus from Antigua was subsequently awarded US $15,000 to facilitate the activities of the club.

The US Embassy Bridgetown purchased equipment for the club totalling US $10,929.The club will meet twice a week (Wednesdays and Saturdays) until July 2022.

The target audience includes secondary school students in Antigua ages 13-17. Seventeen students were chosen based on the level of interest in STEM, sports, game design, and dedication to the club and each student will have a leadership role in the organization.
The Embassy will collaborate with ECA through its Sports Diplomacy team to recruit professional international esports athletes and streamers to serve as speakers and envoys to the club.
The Embassy will also engage speakers from EducationUSA to discuss the importance of U.S. higher education and assist students in finding the best university that fits their academic and financial needs.
Additionally, an expert in the Embassy’s Information Resource Management team will deliver a presentation to students on the importance of Cyber Security.
The Minister of Education Honourable Daryll Matthew is scheduled to attend and deliver remarks. Permanent Secretary Greenaway will also attend.
