EMS Ready For Hurricane Season

3

The Antigua Barbuda Emergency Medical Services (ABEMS) has already made all of the necessary preparations for the 2019 Hurricane Season.

ABEMS Director, Shawn Greenidge, spoke with the Communications Department from the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, and revealed that a disaster plan has already been created.

The plan outlines the overall responsibilities, guidelines and organizational priorities necessary to ensure safe, coordinated service efforts.

Greenidge indicated that twenty employees have already indicated their willingness to serve during this period.  Should the need arise, other employees who may not be listed may be asked to work before, during and or after any emergency.

The Emergency Medical Technicians who will be working during any hurricane will be designated to a number of crucial areas including Command Safety, Logistics, Operation Control, Accountability Officer, Communication Dispatch, Extrication Team, Medical Team, and Emergency Vehicle Operators.

Arrangements have been made with the Mount St. John’s Medical Center for a secondary staging area to be established to house at least 10 personnel.
