Beginning next month guests 12 years and older will have to show proof of vaccination to enter five hotels in Antigua & Barbuda.
Elite Island Resorts Caribbean announced it will enforce the policy at all its hotels in the region.
The hotel chain’s local resorts are Hammock Cove Antigua, Galley Bay Resort & Spa, St. James’s Club & Villas, Pineapple Beach Club and the Verandah Resort & Spa.
It also has hotels in Barbados, St. Lucia, the Grenadines and Panama.
“We’ve taken this after a long month, two-month-long discussion and we’ve come to the conclusion that that is the best way forward to protect our guests and our employees and everyone else. It’s a very difficult decision but one which we felt we had to make,” Founder and CEO Elite Island Resorts, Rob Barratt, said.
“As of September 1st, everyone that visits our hotel, be it non-nationals, or nationals, as guests, will have to be vaccinated at least once towards the two-time vaccination,” Barratt explained.
He said the policy will also affect guests that have already booked their stay.
“They will have to find other accommodations. There’s a lot of accommodation, especially in the month of September, October in which tourism for the Caribbean, including Antigua, is very weak and there are other accommodations available to them,” the hotelier said.
