The wheels of the economy need to keep turning in order to pay for the huge cost of this impending disaster.
There’s things that can be done to keep tourism going while we enter and sail through this disaster. There are as many ideas as there are people and some make sense and some don’t.
Instead of locking down everything, I think tourists should be only permitted to go to all inclusive resorts for the next few months. They can’t rent cars. They can only go on certified tours that do not take locals.
Tour guides on these tours must get tested weekly while following strict protocols.
Shopping trips must be conducted as small tours where tourists are escorted by guides. If restaurants are to be open for dining then possibly have a day or a night when it’s only for tourists and the others when it’s only locals.
It’s time to have real bubbles and not pappyshow bubbles. We need to be strict and sensible to avoid complete lockdowns.
It’ll take us a month or two to get out of this frightening healthcare situation. It’s time to get tough but let business function if there’s a possibility of them working safely.

Public health must come before profit. The only way to reduce the number of illnesses and deaths and stop the collapse of the health system is to lockdown. The government knew they needed to do this before now and if they had we would have controlled this by now. Unfortunately the pressure from business has gotten us to this parlous position. Continuing to stay open means accepting even more deaths and illness. Big business needs to help out by providing an allowance to their workers to allow them to stay home and a subsidy to small business.
Trinidad had lockdown for months and still had Covid rising day after day. St. Kitts and Nevis went through the same thing. Antigua and Barbuda were open from last year June and controlled and managed it well until disobedience kicked in. We lack persons taking personal responsibility. And no amount of lockdown will help against that. It’s just like stopping people from littering. You need to enforce the law with higher fines and perhaps reward persons that are bringing it to the attention of the authorities. I will not accept other preventing me from making a living because they fail to follow the protocols. The vaccine is free, take it if you want to have a change of surviving Covid. I do not play around with my health and my life, and we need to get serious with people who don’t care. Tourists are our bread winner. And we need to learn to live with the risk that they pose. They come here with a negative PCR test and when we go to the USA with a negative PCR test, we are not harrased and told we are superspreaders. Everyone should follow the protocols.
This was a comment on the PM’s personal Facebook page where he shared the latest dashboard image. My comment was in response to several people calling for a total hard lockdown. We can’t afford to Go that way. It will be as bad for the economy as it will be for health in the long run. I was “spitballing” ideas, as there must be alternatives to a hard lockdown. That’s all. We need to take emotion out and ego out and be very logical while looking at what worked and what didn’t over the last 18 months across the world.

Since this country would collapse without a functioning tourist industry how exactly would YOU suggest ALL of us survive whether directly or indirectly without tourism? Bear in mind that the airport would become an almost ghost town, the harbour would follow suit and crime would become more and more out of control as the coffers run dry. It would appear that the covid spreaders are a minority group of ignorant idealists who refuse to respect the guidelines (which includes vaccination) laid out by the Ministry of Health.

I agree with Eli Fuller and absolutely am of the opinion that law and order need to enforce compliance of the guidelines and allow businesses, including tourism, to continue functioning in the safest manner possible which will go a long way towards ensuring that the country and all of ‘we the people’ can survive.

John’s without a mask and the police does nothing but harass the local man that jave a mask on but might not be covering his nose the brilliant ideas you shared would be useless. How can we be advocating for testing for unvaccinated persons alone in the workplace when the vaccinated contracts and transmit the Virus as well? If and when the government decides to institute a full shutdown again, 90% of public sector employees should be sent home for two months without pay leading up to the shutdown. I would like to believe that public sector employees would understand that a reduction in the public sector is one of the few ways the government would be able to survive another shutdown.

You know the USA never had a lockdown. But we have seen people suffer economically. And that is not because of tourism. But because businesses had to close. People displaced because they cannot pay their rent. They cannot buy food. we have seen the long line of people going to Food Banks. I have not seen one food bank with people in long lines in this country. Because the government and many other NGO’s and businesses stepped up. Food basket up until today are being given out to people that need it the most. yes, I’m calling some organizations by name; the Jumby Bay homeowners, Mill Reef Club, Rob Barrett and his companies, Calvin Ayre, the Halo Foundation, and many more. They have been giving Food packages to the needy every month. Now people calling for a lockdown, what have they done for the needy. Have they put things in place to feed all these people when the country is locked down? Or is this just politicking. Hoping that the lockdown will cause more suffering and therefore more problems for the government to face with less revenue to run the affairs of the state. Covid is here to stay, and we better learn to live with it. Follow the protocols and protect yourself and others. And must of all. Get yourself vaccinated before it is too late for you.

The Fullers parents came from the USA. They owned a Hotel and Night Club at Dutchman’s Bay south of the former USA Naval Air Station at Coolidge. The name of the Club was Bucket of Blood. The family as I remembered tried to build a hotel at Morris Bay,Old Road. The two small cottages sat there unfinished for decades.

The hotel was named calaloo and it was a very successful hotel that was run for many many years by the Fullers, not a single cottage was left unfinished, so please get your facts straight before you write bs on here about stuff you clearly have no idea about. Also there were many cottages, not 2. He also had a second hotel named the lord Nelson which was a highly successful hotel. This is what’s happening, before we can fully open up the country, the government wants to see more discipline from the majority. Think about it, we’ve managed to slightly prevent overload of our health care system, with the implementation of this partial lockdown. The risk that we all face if the island fully opens up, is the obedient minority suffering by putting their trust into the disobedient majority, which will play a high factor of spreading the virus, and overloading our only hope for survival, which is our health care system. If this happens, then you’ll see true hypocrisy towards the government. The disobedient majority would never take the blame, but quickly point their fingers to who executed the idea, in the first place. If what you suggested is implemented and fails, it will be way more chaotic than what’s happening now. If your plan fails, the disarray of the island would strike fear, it will cause triple more extreme mental break downs, suicide and madness than we are even seeing presently.
