Electoral Commission responds to concerns about Voters List

The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission wishes to advise the General Public that there has been a delay in the publication of the Register of Electors, statutorily due on June 30th, 2021.

The reason for the delay in the publication of the Register of Electors as statutorily required, is due to a technical glitch in the electronic system.

This requires the Solicitor General’s Chambers to prepare an Order to extend the time for the publication of the Register of Electors, pursuant to Section 27 (4) of the Representation of the People (Amendment) Act No.17 of 2001.

The Act provides as follows:

Where anything in connection with the preparation or the publication of the register of electors, revised register of electors or register for elections under this Part omitted to be done or cannot be done at the time required under this Part or is done before or after that time or is otherwise irregularly done in matter or form, the Commission may, by order, at any time before or after the time within which the thing is required to be done, extend that time or validate anything so done before or after the time required or so irregularly done in matter or form.

The time requested in the draft Order, to extend the period for the issuance of the Register of Electors, is no later than July 30th, 2021.

However, it is anticipated that the Register of Electors will be published well in advance of that date.

  1. So why did they have to wait for the UPP to speak out about the missing list before making a statement?

I should believe that there are all adults employed at the Electorial Commission Offices. Please persons in authority do the correct thing. Do not wait to be called out and then try to clean up the mess.

Please I beg you act your age.

  2. MAD THEM great point. The moment the Electoral Commission became aware that they would be unable to meet the June deadline for the publication of the Register of Electors they should have put out a press release to that effect. Electoral Commission you need to act more professionally.
