A 25-year-old member of the One Love Rastafarian tribe was sentenced to eight years in prison today for killing his cousin in 2014.

Lafieama Phillip pleaded guilty to manslaughter in July; three years after telling police he accidentally shot and killed 38-year-old Nathaniel Campbell.

Phillip, who told a probation officer he and the deceased were best of friends, said they were planting weed in a yard when the incident occurred.

He said the gun went off after he took the it from his pocket to play with it.

Campbell was shot in the head and an autopsy revealed he died from a gunshot injury to the brain.

The prosecution said they accepted the manslaughter plea since there was no evidence of an intention to kill.
