Efforts continue in Antigua to ban mosquito coil

The Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Control Board is intensifying efforts to phase out mosquito coils, with Chairman Dr. Linroy Christian confirming the rejection of new registration requests for these products.

Existing 3-year registrations will be allowed to expire naturally as part of a long-term reassessment.

Dr. Christian reiterates concerns about using coils as the main mosquito repellent, aligning with the board’s previous decision in October to limit new imports due to health hazards from burning the coils.

The board emphasizes the presence of harmful chemicals in coils, emphasizing the need for safer mosquito control methods.
