Educator, Entertainer, Business Leader, Athlete, and Health Advocate Recognized at UPP St. Mary’s South Annual Gala

The United Progressive Party (UPP) Branch of St. Mary’s South launched its first Annual Gala on July 6th.

The event was held at Dennis Bar and Restaurant at Ffryes Beach, under the auspices of Hon. Kelvin Simon, M.P. for the constituency.

The gala brought the community together to build stronger bonds and to recognize five individuals who through their accomplishments, have contributed to the development and vibrancy of St. Mary’s South. M.P. Simon presented the awardees with a plaque to highlight their outstanding work, achievements and community impact throughout St. Mary’s South.

He commended them for pursuing excellence and for supporting and inspiring others.

Simon also praised them for their leadership and collaboration on various projects during challenging times.

Awards were presented to the following persons:

Jean Saunders for her accomplishments in Education;

Dennis “Menace XL” Roberts for his accomplishments in Entertainment;

Oliver Joseph for his accomplishments in Business;

Shanta Burton for her accomplishments in Sports;

Margaret Smith for her accomplishments in Health.

“We have made tremendous strides as a community because of the accomplishments and contributions of many outstanding residents. The list is exhaustive but we want to begin to officially recognize those in our community who go above and beyond to help others and to make “giving back” a community tradition,” M.P. Simon said.

The Parliamentary Representative praised attendees, sponsors and organizers for the success of the gala. He further stated that the concept of the Accomplishment Awards emerged from a shared vision to empower the residents of St. Mary’s South and to foster community pride. M.P. Simon referenced impactful projects such as youth programs, sports tournaments, health fairs, cultural events and clean-up efforts that have enhanced the aesthetics of the community and the overall well-being of residents.

  1. Well people like to be recognize for their hard work, whether in the community or at work. Ad is Shuggie sees the need to recognize them, once these persons are happy with the recognition. Why not. It’s what makes them happy. It’s like playing dolly house. It’s children melee as Obstinate would sing. Don’t pay them no mind.
