Education Minister, Michael Browne, says information being circulated regarding the cancellation of national assessment for grades two, four and six is false.

“To this date the Ministry has not made a final determination as to what is going to take place in regards to the six grade examination. We are currently in the process of consultation with the various stakeholders examining several options,” Browne explained.

The Education Minister says communication from the ministry is sent directly to formal mediums such as media houses, ministry of education portals and at times on his social media platforms.

Minister Browne says official documents from his ministry have had a particular format.

“They have the letter head, the date and “urgent notice” attached to it. So unless you see something in that format coming from the ministry, because we would send it to the media houses themselves, it is not official, ” Browne warned.

He says he’s aware people are anxious and eager for the information but urges everyone to wait until consultation is finalized.

“When we would have finalize consultation then the director would make a recommendation, I then would touch base with cabinet so that everybody has a full understanding that this is the recommendation that the government is putting forward” said Browne.

He adds that all avenues and possibilities must be examined.
