Dunbars Station Moves to Bethesda and Christian Valley Amidst Land Use Controversy

1

The experimental Agriculture Facilities from Dunbars Agriculture Station are relocating to Bethesda and the Christian Valley area, as confirmed by Agriculture Minister EP Chet Greene.

The government decided earlier this year to repurpose Dunbar’s lands for commercial and housing use, a move that has sparked criticism for potentially sacrificing valuable agricultural space.

Minister Greene expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for collaborating on a tissue culture lab in Bethesda. Work has begun on both Bethesda and Christian Valley sites.

Additionally, upgrades are planned for the Cades Bay pineapple farm in Old Road, with Cabinet approval for fencing and future cultivation, possibly starting with crops other than pineapple.

  1. How can this be a controversy; the lands at Dunbar are designated for settlement by the land use policy.
Formally known as the Sustainable Island Resource Zoning Management Plan, agreed in Parliament in 2012. And available in the internet from multiple credible websites.
But not a word is heard about the abuse of areas that are designated in some form or another as protected.
