Loop News – Antigua and Barbuda’s Government has expressed concern about the number of road accidents and fatalities in the country.

The government discussed the road carnage yesterday at the cabinet meeting.

Antigua and Barbuda’s 2023 road fatality figure climbed to six on Monday when Police Constable Robert Dyer died while riding his motorcycle on the Sir Sydney Walling Highway.

Reports said Dyer was traveling from East to West, when he collided with an SUV that was traveling in the opposite direction.

A note from the cabinet meeting said the government “urges all road users to exercise greater care, to slow down, and to abide by the speed limits. Speed kills, the Cabinet reminds, and death is irreversible”.

  1. The cabinet need to have a talk with ALL POLICE OFFICERS because in Antigua wise they are police officers they believe they’re above the law…….That same victim use to be so on the edge for other road users and he would ride his bike or the police bike so reckless DAILY………..CAN’T BE ME ALONE KNOW AND SEE THAT…….ANTIGUA PEOPLE TO DANGEROUS

    • I agree full 100 on that ch888 !
The police need to remember is that they are humans too, they are expected to uphold the law since they are the ones who represent the law.
All police, remember you are not ABOVE THE LAW.
You are flesh and blood, you bleed when flesh is removed or a bullet connect, you have feelings and family too.
Do your job with dignity, empathy, pride and full joy.
Why you want to sink me for speed driving and you’re flying…Now look where this poor cop ended up, and them nah seh noting tarl in the news about the details of the accident.

You live reckless, you will reap the consequences.

    • THE POLICE need to be told to stop driving like idiots!!! Not because U have a siren on means immediate road clearence!! Two years ago I was run off the road by a police constable and to this day never even get a sorry. Spare us with the BS!

      • I totally agree with you. a police bike rider almost ran into the front of my vehicle after months ago.i was on a corner waiting on traffic to allow me to pass and the officer cooked around the corner on wrong side of th road just as a vehicle turned giving me access to pass and all the officer did when he realized what almost happened was to look me in the face and speed off.

  2. Those who drive in Antigua do so without common sense. They would cut you off at will. They would be speeding and over take 3 cars with traffic coming from the opposite directions. They do not stop at STOP SIGNS.I had to slam on my brakes many times. While being cutoff while driving at the speed limits.Antigua is 108 sq.miles.There is no place in Antigua that is too far away. For persons to be driving like idiots. In my opinion, there should be more traffic Police all around the Capital and suburbs.Ticketing those who are not in compliance to the traffic laws of the roads.Until that happens, you would be seeing more serious accidents on the roads in Antigua.
