Ruel Ephraim denies allegations of careless driving, leading to a trial in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court. On June 11th, Ephraim appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason.

Ephraim is accused of hitting pedestrian Andre Lewis on lower All Saints Road on September 8, 2023. Police allege Ephraim struck Lewis near Sammy’s Supermarket while driving from north to south.

Ephraim claimed he heard something hit his car and saw Lewis bump into his left fender, then fall to the ground when he applied the brakes. Ephraim also mentioned a woman advised Lewis to stay down for compensation purposes.

Given the conflicting accounts, the magistrate scheduled the trial for September 4, seeking additional witness testimonies.
