Dr. Edmond Mansoor Joins Antigua & Barbuda Labour Party, Marking Significant Departure from UPP

Antigua and Barbuda is witnessing a seismic shift in its political landscape as Dr. Edmond Mansoor, a long-standing member of the United Progressive Party (UPP), has officially joined the Antigua & Barbuda Labour Party. This move comes as a significant loss for the UPP, with Dr. Mansoor having devoted over 30 years of service to the party.

Dr. Mansoor’s departure follows the recent exit of another key member, the Hon. Anthony Smith, Member for All Saints West. The loss of these prominent figures raises concerns about the UPP’s future and its ability to retain its influential leadership.

Having served as a minister in the Office of the Prime Minister in 2005, Dr. Mansoor was responsible for Broadcasting, Information, and Telecommunications. His dedication to enhancing communication infrastructure in Antigua and Barbuda played a crucial role in the nation’s technological advancement. During his tenure, he spearheaded several key initiatives, including the GATE ICT program, which aimed to improve access to technology for students, and the introduction of the innovative Internet buses that traveled across the island, providing internet access to remote communities.

As a senator, Dr. Mansoor was instrumental in shaping UPP’s strategies and innovations, contributing significantly to the party’s policy development and overall direction. His expertise in telecommunications and public service positioned him as a leader and visionary within the party.

The UPP now faces an uphill battle to maintain its influence, with the departure of such prominent figures and the continuing exodus of key members. The political community and citizens alike are closely monitoring the evolving situation as the UPP rallies to address these challenges.

As Dr. Mansoor embarks on this new chapter with the Antigua & Barbuda Labour Party, the implications of his decision will undoubtedly resonate throughout the political arena, prompting questions about the future direction of the country’s opposition the UPP

  1. I truly believe UPP needs to strategize and make significant changes to remain competitive. We need big change in Antigua based on the current government, but the UPP needs to “renew” to avoid members from feeling the need to jump ship. Now, if jumping ship is due to $$$ being paid by ABLP and “promises,” then those who left were tainted regardless, so good riddance.

  2. Let me guess,
The upp response to this will be…..
    No big deal…
    Good riddance to bad rubbish…
    And the most popular sentiment…..
    Traitor….
    Or
Him leaving has absolutely no impact on the party, we will rise stronger than before.
If I forget anything, it wasn’t intentional.
    Free advise
Please pay attention this is becoming a normal occurrence.
Those catch phrases I just mentioned sounds good, but I think it’s time to look at the reasons this keeps happening…..
Of course you don’t even know who I am so you don’t have to take my advice……

    • yes that will be the typical DELUSIONAL, COPY & PASTE response!!!! they continue to bury dem head in the sand instead of telling the LIPSTICK HAG that she a de prablemm!!!!

  3. I’m going where the money is plain and simple. Stop sugar coating. No loyalty it’s all about the money.

  4. @Mr Really. Could not agree with you more. I can see why ABLP would want Dr Masoor because Melford is all talk and no action. He hasn’t done a notable thing since coming in to government.
Back to UPP. Perception they say sometimes is reality and so it’s up to UPP to come together and address all of these issues to let people see their viability is still intact. It’s not hard. There are enough of us in Antigua who is holding on to the fact that ABLP can never be the best thing for this country. The evidence is there for all to see. We are in the worst situation as a country that we have ever been. All our institutions have been broken down. Our treasury remains empty regardless of how much tax is collected. Our youths are despondent. Crime is more rampant than it has ever been.
So why are these otherwise upstanding citizens so easily swayed to the ABLP? Simply put, selfish reasons. People are turning inwards and away from the concept of Antigua becoming a real nation, because we all know that will never happen under ABLP
The question is: what do we now tell our children since it has become all about the money? How do we now sing “Fair Antigua and Barbuda” with sincerity? How do we now encourage our qualified youths to stay and build the country? How do we stop this country from being in a perpetual state of dependency? How do we now attempt to kill the “check you minister” culture?
So we may laugh at UPP and the ABLP may be at their happiest now. But what happens next? Will these detectors be mum supporters of ABLP ? Or will they have a conscience and attempt to speak out?
Only time will tell but I have a feeling that this will not end well for ABLP.

  5. Is this the same Mansoor who together with others barred the entrance to the Ministry of Planning on upper Church Street, prevented the then Minister Gaston Browne from entering the building? I must be living in the twilight zone. In the movie The Matrix Neo was offered two pills, the red pill or the blue pill…. MR MANSOOR WELCOME TO THE MATRIX…Somebody buzz me when this movie is over. Keep an eye out for Agent Smith aka Mr Browne…THE TOP DAWG

    • is that the same Gisele that REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE PRINGLE at the upp church service in 2014 right after he was the only one to win his seat???

the same Gisele that is his PAID RESEARCH OFFICER and yet still he cant read, speak or reason properly?? no young person from ASE&SL could get that role?

the same one that vex anytime anbody challenge she or Lovell at leaddership convention?

  6. Surprise surprise …not!!!

Again, this duplicitous renegade and turncoat Edmond Mansoor is showing his true self. He was never a truly loyal UPP associate; whereas the Anthony Smith desertion was a surprise.

UPP should be grateful that these betrayals and abandonments are taking place at present, because as I’ve said time and time again (add infinitum 😉), the next General Election is in 3-4 years time.

MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME TO REGROUP

    … STRENGTHEN 💪🏾

Pruning and cutting is good – ask any gardener!

  7. Brix. I know you are in pain. Learn from Mansoor and stop pretend UPP is not a dead place. As they used to say in GI Joe: acknowledgement is half the battle “Knowing is Half the Battle:

  8. My party UPP plz let’s come together an fine young men an woman to make r change for our future . Ablp cant take over our country. Get rid of the dam problem . If r miss Issac jus move her. Who ever it is shuffle up get togetherso we can get rid of that wicked nan dat r give way awe country. Me tired.

  9. @Brixtonian September 7, 2024 At 4:04 pm
Brix have you given it thought that perhaps by the next election the UPP would not exist in its present form. Lewis will form his own party and take half away from the UPP and Pringle would be left with an empty bag. Just be prepared. Because the attrition is far from over.

  10. @Brixtonian all the senior officials running from the boat yet watch you like you enjoy drinking salt water. Please note: No one will feel sorry for you because you have had more than ample warning

  11. These Labourites are amusing. They are sitting there watching all these traitors condescending to the most corrupt, inept, incompetent government in Antigua and Barbuda’s history and they rejoice? UPP could not be better of. At least, when the dust settles, what remains will be men and women of integrity.
Money is behind it all courtesy the taxpayers, so dey going where the money is. The free money will dry up. Let’s see what these flip-floppers, traitors and prostitutes do when the well runs dry . No citizens with a conscience and integrity will ever support ALP, but the allure of money is strong. I say,let all the rats follow the Pied Piper of Antigua and Barbuda. We know how that ends.

  12. Okay
Let’s look at this from another perspective. Because a political point of view might make things difficult for us to see. So look at it this way.
Any business. Or organization that invest in human capacity. It could be a restaurant, or construction, whatever any business.
If you continually invest in the development of your staff like chefs, servers ECT. And after a few months they keep leaving your business and going to work for your competition. I am sure you would be forced to take a serious look at your operations to see what you are doing wrong.
A smart leader would probably go as far as to get an independent audit to figure out the root cause and how to fix the problem.
I don’t have the answers for any of this I can only make suggestions.
    A sa
    .

  13. @BRIXTONIAN & ZACKIE

I am surprised that you Guys are treating these departures from UPP as a BIG JOKE. Supporters like you Guys who needs enemies.

I waited a while before contributing this medium. As card carrying UPP member , I am totally PISSED off at UPP. What is causing all these departures ? Let’s do some introspection to find out the CANCER. If this keeps up there will be no UPP for the next election.

I was told this morning to expect two more UPP members to join ABLP.

    WOW. WOW

  14. Did they show Mansoor $$$$,signs. In the last 10 years. What was his position in the UPP? Is he going to be a Candidate on the ABLP ticket? When was the last time Mansoor made a political statement on behalf of the UPP? I do not know the man. I do not know what he stood for in the past to now.

  15. This latest betrayal was bought and paid for by Gaston Browne and ABLP with the $4.5 billion USD that came on the Antigua Airways flight in January 2023🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😭😭

    • @RED TILL ME DEAD
well said!!!these DELUSIONAL, TOXIC, EMPTYHEAD upp idiots continue to pretend the ship isnt sinking.

wonder what the butterskin piggy vagabun on Lieserver radio going to say this time

  16. INTRODUCTION

If it is a fact that members have been leaving the United Progressive Party (UPP) in favour of joining the Antigua And Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), then there must be a reason for that. The leadership of the UPP must look into the reasons why this is happening.

THE ORIGIN OF POLITICAL PARTIES IN ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA

Political parties all over the world are strange animals that may represent a philosophy, ideology or the interest of a particular class or group of people. In Antigua and Barbuda, political parties have sprung out of the trade union movements of the 1950’s and 1960’s.

The first trade union in Antigua and Barbuda was the Antigua Trades And Labour Union (ATLU). Out of the ATLU sprung the Antigua And Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP). In 1968, there was a major political upheaval in Antigua and Barbuda that led to a split in the ATLU, and the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union: this in turn gave rise to it’s political arm, the Progressive Labour Movement (PLM). Since those early days, the PLM has evolved into the United Progressive Party (UPP). In more recent times, certain specific interest groups have formed their own trade unions or worker associations, for example, the Antigua And Barbuda Union of Teachers. Such new worker associations have divided the politics abit more. However, like in most Caribbean former colonial territories, the trade union movements very much control the politics. Yet, there have emerged certain marked philosophical and ideological diversions between political parties in most Caribbean territories, including Antigua and Barbuda.

Both major political parties here have followed essentially the same economic development policies of attracting foreign investments by offering huge concessions to would be investors in forms of large tracts of free or cheap land, tax holidays or low taxes etc. So, it maybe fair to say that there is not much difference between political parties in Antigua and Barbuda, except which party seems to be able to manage the nation’s economy more efficiently.

    CONCLUSION

Nevertheless, there is hope and the possibility exist that future generations may become more ambitious, and demand a larger stake in our country’s economy and our nation’s future prosperity. So, there is still much room for competition between major political groups. The major question is: do we, as a nation, have the courage to go down that road?

  17. @ Antiguan, I was very fortunate enough to be a trouble-shooter for a large company in Europe; and when I came across a branch that wasn’t functioning to company standards and guidelines, i realised that the main reasons was the staff wasn’t up to the job. Simple!

A bit like the current ABLP administration. 😁

So after around 3-4 months I made sure that the weakest links were moved on or fired, and I replaced them with more competent and professional staff.

This particular branch went from being one of the worst run in the country (out of over 350 branches) to one of the top three.

A RECORD I AM PROUD OF TO THIS DAY.

That’s why I’m not worried in the slightest about the “deadwood” leaving the UPP … in the long term it is for the best.

Remember, you can’t beat life experiences 👍🏾

I’m sure that Gisele D Isaacs has the intelligence and wherewithal to recognise this as well …

My UPP glass 🍸 is half full – not half empty!

  18. So by the theory of many of these ABLP fools, if your wife or husband leave you, you start looking at yourself to see if something is wrong with you? 😂. Y’ all sound like a bunch of simpletons.

Doesn’t each person have to be accountable for their own actions?

These people that left one party for another, has to be accountable for their own actions..so this has nothing to do with what the other person is doing or not doing.

You make a commitment to something, and you stick to it, that’s what real people do.

And for the record, this only makes room for a young person that has any aspiration in the expertise that was voided by his departure.. So go for it some young person out there. You have a brain as well, use it.

So one door close, another one opens..that’s simply all this is.

    • yessai Islanman26 continue to BURY YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND JUST LIKE UPP……the better it is for Labour Party that Gisele et al stay in upp

  19. Isn’t it ironic that all the traitors sing the same sad song? The UPP leadership? Never seen such sorry characters.
When you’re in something, for better or worse, you stick it out. With people in an organization, ego is always a challenge for almost 90% of the participants. It is one thing to move on,but what is so reprehensible is this immediate dash to the enemy side. Anthony Smith did it for 6 million and an illegal post; Dwayne George for a position and Lord knows what else; then there’s the Biltmore, Three Locks,Lamisha,Winston Williams, Driftwood and a long list of others, holding down multiple board positions while the Labourites beg, abuse vouchers and defend the botox DAWG.
There are serious underlying problems in ALP, make no mistake about that but none dare challenge the DAWG.
Concern yourself with that Labourites. Whether by design or not UPP is being purged. Our country needs men and women of principle and character desperately, not prostitutes, traitors and thieves

  20. @Watching>>>>>following your warped logic:

Tell your daughter to stay with her ABUSIVE, TOXIC, NARCISSISTIC husband and take all the blows and BAD TREATMENT

  21. @ Islanman26 and @ Watching, let’s keep reminding the general public about the REAL issues that’s troubling Antigua & Barbuda.

Let the ABLP rejoice, because they haven’t had much else to crow about since Browne came to prominence (or should I say dominance😁) in 2014. Tarl!

Believe it or not, I’m thoroughly enjoying these tete-a-tetes with the Gastonites, because on other topics they hide, disappear or just plain bury their heads in ABLP’S political sandstorm.

But anything untowards on UPP’S so-called issues, they come out like mosquitoes baying for blood. However, no problem, it’ll keep them writing cogently … hopefully 👍🏾

  22. The thing that would be scintillating in upp right now is a new public relations officer to take the load off Gisele who is reduce to back and forth salacious petty politics with Gaston, and that day the older executive party supporters who chose Mr Pringle as the leader and influence broth upon the people because of their presence was a bad decision, because the politics in both ALP and UPP is not ideological, just mere color tribe, so these persons are expected to defend party color like school days house color. And the politics of both party is Centristic, so that will affect young inexperienced Pringle ten folds than Gaston, because ALP was built on the revolutionary politics of V.C.Bird, so there is nothing for Pringle to energize the people with been a centrist, it’s as though there is a harmonious relationship between both party and white capital monopoly domination, what comes to mind is PLH over in barbuda that seem to get the blessings of both ALP and UPP because of centrism, so the people not feeling any political ideology steering to a direction of black empowerment, and by that I mean resources empowerment and not poetical speeches, when the Hon.prime minister Baldwin spencer did his small business promotion during his tenure, I witness all sort a business sprang up, what dealt some a blow was the stringent tax measure brought about by Mr Lovell, if it was Dr cort it would have been handled differently, back to what’s leadership, the country was not in a position to tutor a leader while a rambunctious leader like Gaston was the adversary, and I blame the older upp stalwart for this, using their presence to incentivise those old people in wheel chair are hardly could walk to make decisions of future ramifications, there was elements within the branches given agenda to dissuade the people from thinking logical and objective and carry out party mandate instead, which was flawed, my take is a renaissance, the P.R.O need to change to a more effective speaker and not so accented so you can feel the Antiguan vernacular, and I know we may not get Joan Underwood to ease the pain Gisele is under but would have been great, if Bruce Goodwin had not leave the upp in the pass, he would have been a better pro or Stafford Joseph, and now the UPP has hemorrhage Richard Lewis in the public it’s hard for him to come in and quell the disillusionment broth on by Pringle leadership selection, but it will be better to have his oration skills at the head right now than Pringle. I myself is not motivated because of this situation upp has placed on the people, the movement died in doing so, Lovell was a softy to Gaston being a man of fine etiquette that caused some of the problem back again to centrist politics, he should have been more forceful and delegating, we as black people need a political ideology that benefits us in terms of resources entrepreneurship, the Westminster politics don’t cater to the black population, it’s for foreign global corporation, so it’s anti-black government it creates that looks after white interest like hotels or foreign wealth extraction as sugar cane did, unless one of these party don’t come straight out with certain pronouncements that can motivate the future generations into feeling inclusivity they will be apathetic, and dependent on political carnival atmosphere at election time for concerts an gifts instead a their countries future, Tim Hector was able to bring that revolutionary politics and feeling to the people, his void is felt now affecting this class of generations, who seem to be rudderless, and only enjoy conspicuous consumption, that’s why Gaston can buy out so much of them. Look I leave it here for conscience within the UPP to ponder on without self for country, stop trying to prove to the people you have the superior logics and give ears to their cry, after all there is no UPP without them.

  23. ELDREAD the PRO of the UPP is not the problem. He is not allowed to do his work. The UPP operates on press releases and few comments from the Leader. The PRO is perhaps the most brilliant person in the UPP. The UPP needs a face-lift especially in the leadership. The Party too dead.

  24. Pillow talk came true it seems. One night while listening to Mr Knight saying that the middle easterners will not vote for a woman and urged the UPP to move Pearl Quinn from Rural North, I commented that maybe Dr Mansoor should be the next candidate. Only makes sense. But, what does not make sense is that the one who condemned the ALP and the Birds to the dust bin of history would be the dog returning to its vomit. Sad!! But, we shall soon see Dr Mansoor as the ALP candidate for Rural North. Guess he has what is required in Rural North: Ethnicity and Gender. Poor Antigua!!

  25. I have one suggestion to the PM. Make Dr. Mansoor deputy speaker of the house to release sir Gerald and Sir Robin from time to time.

  26. Hmm it looks like your website aate myy first comment (it was super long)
so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your
blog. I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything.
Do you have anyy tips for rookie blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it. https://lvivforum.pp.ua/
