Dr. Edmond Mansoor, a former long-serving member of the United Progressive Party (UPP), has shared his reasons for leaving the opposition and joining the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP). He expressed his disappointment with the current state of the UPP, describing it as a “mere shadow” of what it once was under the leadership of former Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer and Harold Lovell.
Dr. Mansoor, who served in various capacities within the UPP over nearly four decades, highlighted the party’s divisive and toxic nature as significant factors in his decision to leave. He criticized the current leadership, stating they had strayed from the UPP’s original “people first” ethos and were now focused on self-interest. He also mentioned their failure to reposition and strengthen the party, leading to what he described as a leadership that is “toxic” and lacking the ability to move the party forward.
In his critique, Dr. Mansoor pointed to character assassination tactics employed by the leadership, aimed at discrediting members who have departed the party, such as Hon. Anthony Smith and Benjamin For, among others. He concluded by stating that the leadership’s failure to fulfill its mandate had left the party in a state that he deemed “ungradable.”
Dr. Mansoor emphasized that his decision to join the ABLP was based on his desire to contribute to the development of Antigua and Barbuda, distancing himself from the challenges facing the UPP.

It was telling hearing him state that there was a captain who could not get the plane off the run way (Lovell), then came a new one (Pringle) who could not even start the plane. Recall even before Lovell, there was a leader who his collogues labelled a tissue paper leader (the events between 2004 to 2014 proved this correct). You have to blinded by bitterness to support that kind of party.
Look [R]Edmond, you’ve left the UPP, and you are now embracing Gaston Browne and his unpalatable and unaccountable – to the public – ABLP.
And you’ve got the gall to talk about “contribute to the development of Antigua and Barbuda” with a party that leaves a lot to be desired in this particular field.
GIVE US – DARK SKIN – ANTIGUANS A BREAK!
Things are not all they seem with Gaston Browne.
Remember, Alligator 🐊 may lay egg 🥚, but him nu fowl …
BRIXTONIAN. Why bring the race card into this. BRIXTONIAN..you are the last man left standing in support of UPP. I hope Joanne will revive the DNA. UPP done / finished. BRIXTONIAN you support FOOLISHNESS.
Even blaming the ABLP for the implosion of their own party. Instead of always being so negative about everything going on in the Country, focus on the leadership of your party and come up with strategies and solutions to better your party.” Antigua is doing fine”.
Edmond Mansoor is an IDIOT in my opinion.
Time will expose him.
It is extremely obvious that the hierarchy of UPP is running their ship on reef.
They were forewarned in the earlies where the problem was.
Having a stalwart member like Dr. Mansoor jumping ship and coming onboard the Big Red machine speaks volumes & certainly very welcoming.
However, I am still awaiting on the Doc to apologize to the Laborites & the nation at large concerning the alleged statement he made ” Putting the works of VC Bird in the dust bins of history”
The UPP (even tho it never lived up to it) used to tout itself as “People First”. Now it has a CHAOS DEMON touting “Me First”
Please my UPPP Family , something is definitely WRONG with Leaders of UPP. There are so many members leaving the UPP and the Leaders still believe that They are NOT doing something wrong?
I listened to Dr. Mansoor , Damani Tabor , Dr. Cleon Athill , Lamin Newton , Colin O Neal Browne and They all said the same thing “UPP Leaders are TOXIC “UPP is IMPLODING . I begging you Guys to do the right thing. If this continue We shall lose all the seats. Please be guided accordingly.
Come on @Champ, are you the champ of negativity?
It sure sounds like it!
Remember, any issues that the UPP may or may not have, is nothing in comparison to the financial and infrastructural suffering that so many Antiguans are witnessing under this current ABLP government.
The UPP can EASILY reset and resolve any “perceived” problems by the next General Election, however our economy with its dire housing; infrastructural woes of our roads and water system will take decades to sort out.
NOW WHICH PARTIES SCENARIO IS EASIEST TO RESOLVE @ CHAMP?
Remember, UPP’S glass is always half FULL, not half EMPTY like ABLP’S …
Stay positive 👍🏾
@Brix.. I could not resist responding to your comment. In prior commented you lamented we were seeing the demise of the opposition and you claimed this would be bad for A&B. Today you are now claiming this is simply a hiccup and its not a real problem. Seems you have Dissociative identity disorder?
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Pringle stand up in front of 40 people at Seaview Farm Playing Field and say that his party is strong lol 😆 😂 💪
Hey tenman, my shoulders are broader than broad, and I’m so use to uneducated people like yourself not being able to reply to what I’ve actually highlighted in my ANR threads (apart from Dave Ray 😉).
If I was given an EC Dollar for every ABLP supporter who couldn’t respond in kind, I would be wealthier than your idol Gaston Browne.
Brixtonian broader than Broadway 😁
BRIXTONIAN’S CREDIBILITY WAS SHOT THE DAY HE ACCEPTED PRINGLE AS LEADER OF THE UPP.
@ CHE[AT], do not misquote Brixtonian, I am a diehard supporter of the UPP and not of ANY individual. Fact!
I MADE THAT MISTAKE ONCE, WAY BACK IN 2013/14 WHEN FOLLOWING THE DUPLICITOUS GASTON BROWNE.
NEVER AGAIN …
