‘Don Official’ Stalwart of Antigua’s entertainment industry dies

Trust me, Nuh cuss me”

It’s the familiar catch phrase that has been long associated with Alphonso ‘Don Official’ Richards, a pioneer and forerunner in Antigua’s entertainment industry.

Richards passed away today after being hospitalised in the United States with a prolonged illness.

His name became synonymous in the promotion of dancehall music at the very height of the music’s popularity in Antigua.

At the time reggae concerts were a regular feature of the island’s entertainment scene.

Even though confined to a wheel chair, Richards possessed a charismatic personality that endeared many persons to him as he pursued his various business opportunities that included the ownership of a club and a retail business.

Despite his passion for dancehall, he was also drawn to Antigua’s Carnival celebrations and a few years ago became actively involved in the festival with the launch of his Angel’s J’ouvert troupe.

He will be sadly missed by the entertainment industry and those in the media with whom he had a very special relationship. (STATE MEDIA)
