Dominican Republic and Antigua and Barbuda Sign Agreement for New Barbuda School

The governments of Antigua and Barbuda and the Dominican Republic have signed an agreement to construct a primary school in Barbuda.

The agreement was signed by Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. E.P. Chet Greene, Minister of Education, Hon. Daryll Matthew, and Dominican Republic’s Foreign Minister, Roberto Alvarez, during the Fourth International Conference for Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) held at the American University of Antigua from May 27 to 30.

The project, valued at US$1.5 million, includes completing architectural drawings and selecting a construction company.

This commitment honors a promise made by the former Dominican government following Hurricane Irma’s devastation in 2017, which destroyed 90% of Barbuda’s buildings, including the Holy Trinity School.

Foreign Minister Greene expressed gratitude for the support from a fellow Caribbean nation, emphasizing the importance of regional assistance.

Education Minister Matthew highlighted the investment in education, likening the school’s construction to planting a seed for the future. Foreign Minister Alvarez noted that this donation strengthens the ties between the two countries and symbolizes their enduring relationship.

  1. With all the nasty Jamaicans living here with one million children and no representative living off the natives back and burdening our education system, what has their failed bid Commonwealth SG, done at the SIDs for them.
    Get them out of Antigua

  2. Oh lawd, Tek Chet at it again. Will this be land sold which will cause an uproar with Barbudans? Give more details, and share the agreement.

  3. More Spanish people going to Barbuda now? Under ABLP, soon the whole of Barbuda will look like West of Perry Bay.

  4. Thank you DOMINICAN REPUBLIC! We have shared history. Our men went to the DR and made families….mixed mulattoes. One family, One People…..LOVE the PUNTA CANA people plenty! Gracias

  5. WHY NOT BUILD A SCHOOL IN DIRT POOR HAITI, RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO THEM??? OH ME FO GAT….DEM NO LUB HATIANS CAUSE DEM “TOO BLACK”.

THE THINGS they accomplish in Antigua they couldn’t do it in big corrupt murder infested Jamaica …….
Could an Antiguan read news …. have cook shop… hair / nail salons in Jamaica NOT!!

I live for the day ANTIGUA GOVERNMENT STOP THEM FROM COMING HERE

  7. Now….. with this new school all it does is allow more SPANISH to flood Antigua and Barbuda.

It’s a good deed for the children of Barbuda but at what cost to the small island

If Antigua has monies for all these frivolous things ALP has monies for schools and other things are the teachers gonna come from DR too….. they might as well.

Barbuda primary or secondary school jus isn’t Gaston priority ….he is always begging tho

  8. I hope they get teachers because currently some teachers are teaching 3 and more subjects in secondary and others are teaching remotely from Antigua. Advantage can never done

  9. The comment about the DR not buidling a school in Haiti is really stupid. Although the D.R and Haiti do share many problems including racial tensions, the DR a couple years after the Haiti earthquake in 2010 build Haiti a brand new University at a cost way higher than that of that school to be built in Barbuda. When the DR President at the time during the opening ceremony was pelted with stones.

  10. The repopulation of Barbuda, as is the intent, of Gaston Browne, PM and his ABLP Government will be a great way, to collect data on such things as [crimes], of ALL aspects, so that future trends good, bad or indifferent can be analysed and determine what we’re, are the reason(s) why they’re #trending in a particular direction.

  11. @Facts, You call what is happening West of Perry Bay, development??? You call all these no skills immigrants that take away the jobs we used to do as kids-at gas stations and supermarkets, development?? You call them being taken into the hotel workforce and driving down the wages, development? Well then, you must be Gaston Brown or one of his minions.
