Dominica Will Invest In New LIAT Says PM Browne

Dominica has given a firm commitment to invest in LIAT 2020 Limited, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has said.

The new LIAT is Browne’s suggested replacement for LIAT 1974 Limited which is expected to be liquidated

Prime Minister Browne says he plans to move ahead with the creation of the new LIAT if his fellow colleagues do not wish to pursue that option.

Browne says he has already held talks with Skerrit who agreed to invest in the new airline.

“There are several countries already that have indicated their interest to invest. I don’t want to go as far as calling their names. This is no form of trickery, it is a matter of fact.

In fact, one country so far would have made a public statement, that is Dominica; that they will invest.

“So I can say that Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and I would have held private discussions and he has assured me that on the basis there is a new LIAT that Dominica will invest.

“He said to me you can count on Dominica 100 percent and there are others,” Browne said.

  1. Even if there is a new Liat it will need landing rights so at the end of the day all this squirming between the northern and southern Caribbean leaders must cool lest we will have a white elephant named Liat 2020 Ltd.

      • You are correct. The north and the south should work hand in hand. All regional airlines should work together.

      • @ Point. If you think Gaston owns every island then I guess Liat 2020 Ltd can go anywhere it so desire!

        • EXACTLY !!..POINT still doesn’t know what is going on….in time he will find out though.

      • …because IF there is a LIAT 2020 which OBVIOUSLY would be the brainchild of Browne,it would operate in the NORTH only, since other Countries are NOT interested in LIAT anymore.

  2. Down south where the most LUCRATIVE routes are will be St.Vincent,Barbados,Grenada,St.lucia,Trinidad and Guyana.

    • DOMINICA has no choice in this matter. St Kitts & Nevis watching every move he makes & every word uttered. St Lucians, Grenada, St Vincent & the other Southern Caribbean leaders can’t or won’t trust him because he boast too much & talk too much. He Gaston Clown messed up the whole pepperpot with LIAT. The pot is already boiling so the crab can’t jump out now. The past few days, he’s been really quiet. Too bad he couldn’t face his caribbean counterparts. His mouth is too big & it shows he’s no big boss, just big ass. Leadership matters.

      • Some of you don’t need to comment at all. Y’all sound so hateful and ah full S..t Nothing positive to offer whatsoever!!

  3. Even if and I doubt this will happen any time soon, what type and how many aircraft, does he think the measly amount he mentioned can purchase? Where would the new LIAT fly too, Dominica?

I guess he think, that the so called new LIAT will take over routes, flight manuals and use all the landing rights the old entity have, but I don’t think so.

    • Why would they need to fly to Antigua? It needs to be headquartered elsewhere. Too many Antiguas employed in LIAT.

  4. If they all come up with their own airlines they are all bound to fail. If LIAT can’t be profitable with all the routes how can two or three airlines splitting the routes survive. Every man for himself will mean none for all.

    • The PM of Dominica in his usual style may give consent to invest in the new LIAT even if he has not understood all of the conditions concerning the idea. However, that’s a matter for debate in the Dominica House of Assembly so that the necessary questions can be asked and for clarification to be given on them.

  5. In the midst of a pandemic with no end in sight and airlines all over the world are in trouble you want to open an airline? I hope is with your own money Gaston.

  6. You are correct. The north and the south should work hand in hand. All regional airlines should work together.

  7. We at “Gibbs Aircraft Engineering ” will be assisting all Airlines, with they maintenance. This is to ensure a high standard of safety. Remember, safety is one of the key factor of the airline industry. It’s ok to bring Aircraft, however a safe operation is needed. We at Gibbs Aircraf Engineering have the knowledge and experience.

  8. Airlines are a very expensive business to run.It takes many baths full of money to operate daily.Landings and takeoffs the LIAT operates daily.Takes a severe toll on the structure of each aircraft.Maintenance, fuels, staffs, fees are also a burden on LIAT.If Antigua and Dominica were to form this new LIAT.How many planes would be a starter. If really started, with the money shortages in Antigua.Does Dominica have the where with all to really dump a substantial amount of money into the new LIAT.How long would stay in the sky.For a miracle minute then it runs out of dough, green backs. Then we would be right back to square one.I do not want to see LIAT go.However, there has to be a better way to go about it.Why Grenada,St,Lucia,St.Vincent,Barbados,St.Kitts and Nevis,The BVI,do not wish to be a part of LIAT at this time.

  9. In the ABI issue the UPP govt and the Central Bank had a plan in place to liquidate the bank. Gaston in opposition said he had investors with funds ready to resuscitate the bank. He had meetings after meetings with the staff relaying his vision. Everyone was overjoyed. The great banker who saved Swiss American, is now coming to save our beloved ABIB. Drunk with expectation they made a deal with the devil and supported his govt. After the election he adopted the first plan, cuss out the employees and told mackie dont even pass infront of the new bank.

  10. “He said to me you can count on Dominica 100 percent and there are others,” Browne said…..and I can count on BARBADOS,St.VINCENT,St.LUCIA,GRENADA 100 percent too that they will NOT be in LIAT 2020.

  11. Browne says he don’t want to call names, but yet he called Skerrit…so if Skerrit withdraws would he be called a TRAITOR?…and didn’t Skerrit also said yes to those down south too?

  12. Mr. Browne. Just remember that Caricom is made up of several members. You can’t go it alone. You need to be rational in your thinking. LIAT or whatever it will be called needs CAL more than ever now.

  13. The Caribbean leaders need to deal with this issue as a collective body.
The decisions of just a couple of the leaders is a recipe for potential back lash.

  14. Has anyone recently taken a good look at the economy of Dominica, and the conditions and state of which the people live. Where is the money generated from what are the resources we are utilizing to show growth and development that could bring about surplus that we can invest to benefit the country with extension to the Caribbean. I would advise any parties to look into where the money is coming from before one could invest.

  15. I wish Prime Minister Browne well in his vision and endeavour for the new LIAT. Without the help of other Caribbean Islands can’t see this new LIAT surviving to long in the skies. Caribbean Ailines is finding it difficult furthermore to maintain the skies and for PM Browne to start a new airline that don’t even have planes and hard cash!!!
