Dolphin Swim Club Hawksbill Swim a Success: Participants Swim a Mile to Finish Strong

St. John’s, Antigua – On May 1, 2023, the Dolphin Swim Club hosted their annual Hawksbill Swim, attracting a large group of open water swimmers who gathered at Hawksbill Beach to swim a mile around the Hawksbill Rock and back.

The swimmers were greeted by a beautiful day and calm waters, making it the perfect day for a swim. Participants took to the water with great enthusiasm and determination, with the mantra “just keep swimming” in mind. The Dolphin Swim Club’s Dr. Helena Jeffery-Brown and Lesley Davis led the charge, demonstrating their expertise and passion for the sport.

This year’s event drew a diverse group of swimmers, from seasoned veterans to first-timers. Open Water Enthusiast Peter Wall and Wayne Henry of the Dolphin Swim Club went above and beyond, swimming twice the distance that day.

The swimmers who took on the challenge were Bruce Williamson, Ajounte’ Williamson, Tahesia Drew, Sharon Browne, Ronald Henry, Calvin Edwards, Sanchez Greenidge, Shawn Greenidge, Sparkle Greenidge, Natalya Lawrence, Heidi Weste, Jalen Weste, Denise Edwards, Gabriella Judnarine, Jasmattie Judnarine, Condaisy Browne, Keon Emanuel, Phil Rose, Jahlic Edwards, Noelle Jurgensen, Olivia Jurgensen, Ryen Merchant, Guy Jurgensen, Jaiden Edwards, Andrea Edwards-Jurgensen, Vinesha Martin, Sherelle Pigott, Jahvin Edwards, Ivor “Spliff” Phillip, and Dr. Nicole Roberts. For first-time open water distance swimmers Zahra McKinnon, Sonaya Prosper, Franklin Maynard, Karim Moore, Dr. Desiree Antonio, and Jordan Lawrence, the cross currents proved challenging, but they were rewarded as each one achieved their personal best.

The swimmers’ safety was of utmost importance, and the Lifeguards from the Beach Safety and Security Unit within the Ministry of Tourism were on hand to ensure that the event went smoothly.

Overall, the Dolphin Swim Club Hawksbill Swim was a great success, and congratulations are due to all the participants who took part. The Dolphin Swim Club continues to inspire and support open water swimming, and their dedication to the sport is evident in the success of this year’s event.
