VC Bird International airport
(Cabinet Notes)
A doctor and a nurse, equipped with protective clothing, are to be assigned to the V.C. Bird International Airport, on eight hour shifts, in order to ensure that any arriving passenger who may exhibit symptoms, whether a visitor or a citizen, can be either quarantined or isolated.
The passengers, whose signs of illness would have been reported by the airline, are to be met on the tarmac and transported to the quarantine or isolation site.
The Cabinet repeated its policy to ban travelers who were recently in Italy and the epicenter country where the virus emanated. Cabinet also added Iran, Japan, Korea and Singapore to the list. Germany and France are on a watch list.
Deaths in those countries have all exceeded 1,000 from the coronavirus and infections have also been in the thousands. Nationals of Antigua and Barbuda are required to exercise heightened levels of concern and to avoid travel if it is not essential.
The Task Force established by Cabinet is to meet again on Friday, March 13, 2020.

  1. Are visitors from cruise ships tested before docking/whilst onboard/pre-boarding from origin embarkation point?

  2. Nice try but makes no sense. If one person exhibits symptoms, EVERYONE on the plane needs to be quarantined. This person would have been coughing/using the bathroom etc. the entire flight.

THIS WILL NOT WORK. Only way to repel this virus is shut down all ports of entry (which is not practical) but it’s facts.

May the Lord have mercy on our souls.

    • You’ve travelled on a plane right, I’m sure you see that the plane gets disinfected once the doors are shut.

      • And your point is? Origin of outbreak was China, how you think people all over the globe manage to get it?

  3. What is the Airport authority doing to safeguard its staff. I have not heard of any briefings being done and systems put in place. They need to be more proactive and less reactive.

  4. One main thing the Government need to do is ensure 24 hour WATER SUPPLY IN THE PIPES to the island so persons can wash their hands as required!!

The coronavirus can infect both animals and people and can cause a range of respiratory illnesses from the common cold to lung lesions and pneumonia.

    How contagious is the virus?

It seems to spread very easily from person to person, especially in homes, hospitals and other confined spaces. The pathogen can travel through the air, enveloped in tiny respiratory droplets that are produced when a sick person breathes, talks, coughs or sneezes.

How do I keep myself and others safe?

Washing your hands frequently is the most important thing you can do, along with staying at home when you’re sick and avoiding touching your face.

How can I prepare for a possible outbreak?

Keep a 30-day supply of essential medicines. Get a flu shot. Have essential household items on hand. Have a support system in place for elderly family members.
