DNA candidate Kelton Dalso denies that he sought government funding for his law degree

Press Release by Kelton Dalso

The Youth Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda hosted a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday 18th August 2022 at Potters Village. I participated as the DNA candidate for St. George.

The Hon. Dean Jonas  upon rising to address the crowd in his opening remarks, made certain references to me and my tertiary degree, a Bachelor of Laws LLB, and insinuated that the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and specifically the Gaston Brown led Administration facilitated, contributed or funded my Tertiary Education or that they deserved credit for my accomplishment.  He did this repeatedly. Many persons got the impression that I made a request to the government for assistance and my studies were funded by the state.

Let me now set the record straight.

I have never approached this or any Administration, in any official or unofficial capacity to make any request for financial or other type of support to pursue or complete my LLB or any other study.

I was never made an offer by any government of any funding or other support for my education. Neither have I approached or solicited such assistance from any business or other person outside my household.

My family and I made every sacrifice in support of my ambition to complete my LLB. I did it alone!

While I am proud of my academic accomplishments, I take this opportunity to completely disassociate myself from the disparaging and asinine statements made by the Hon. Dean Jonas which were aimed at Algernon Watts because he is not a holder of a tertiary degree.

I found the insinuations of the Hon. Dean Jonas to be careless, callous and a cheap attack on Mr. Watts and they indicate to all St. Georgians who are not holders of a tertiary degree, the low esteem in which they are held by the Representative.

I wonder how many scholarships or other state assistance, the Hon Dean Jonas has facilitated for our young people during his tenure?

I wish to apologize to the wonderful constituents of St. George for such a crude display of leadership!

I hope that the Hon. Dean Jonas, on reflection would see it fit to offer an appropriate apology to myself, the organizers, and the constituents of St. George for his disingenuous and poor behaviour he exhibited.

  1. Ironically, Dean Jonas did facilitate scholarships for young people…when he used to work for…Baldwin Spencer. Don’t know what he’s done since.

  2. I hate this government. And so what if you did????!! You nuh use di money for drugs. It’s like they want people to bow to them for doing what they ought to. When people get educated, it’s for them to think critically and make better decisions for themselves. Not run behind any government.

  3. Didn’t the PM’s millionaire son Andron Browne get a government scholarship? Would be nice if he gave back some from his millions to help some of the less fortunate in Point climb the Education ladder.

  4. In UPP time we didn’t even had a water schedule…yu jus one person on hill saying…WATER ON…and ppl came running from all over..🙄 imagine tht…yu remember the line up ppl had at the standpipes…😢 we had it the worst with water living in the Baldwin spencer constituency

    • @ Have Mercy

      OBVIOUSLY,

        • @ Enquring Minds

Thats why you and the PM is the same person, always digging into people’s business and knows everybody’s business instead of his own, exposing people , for what they make, what they own, what sickness they have, what a WOTLESS PM.
          JUSTICE FOR NIGEL NOW

        • Are you saying that he was murdered because that amount of money should be had by certain persons? By the way; how did you acquire that info? The publishing of people’s personal business by certain persons seems to be quite commonplace in Antigua these days.

  5. Dalso was full of shit and he was reading like he didn’t know what was written on the paper. Dalso was nervous couldn’t read or see the words. I was so disappointed in Serpent and Dalso

    • @ Sad But True

A SHAME A YA DEY SHAME FOR THE POOR PERFORMANCE FROM DEAN…….

……THE CONCENSUS WAS THAT SEPENT WON HANDS DOWN

    • The ABLP is an elitist party and only care about certain people. They look down on people if they don’t have degrees. Papa Bird did not have a degree. Does Robin have a degree?

LOOK at the other ways that the ABLP is elitist. Look at how they allow the bar at Long Bay owned by BIG SHOT PEOPLE be built on the sand but mash down the bar OWNED by black boys in Parham and the bar owned by the Rasta Sister by Country pond.

ABLP IS SO ELITIST AND ABLP DON’T LIKE BLACK PEOPLE

  6. ABLP is not Elitist in my opinion. DJ is absolutely one and much more. I don’t know how people elected this full of himself , love of himself, rude and crude guy. The APLP top brass including the world boss don’t like him. Sure GB don’t mind winning the upcoming elections and loosing him and Michael Browne. Some attitude his brother have , talking about taking the Directoooooor of education to court. Serpent is one of the most intelligent, Knowledgeable and articulate person around. It’s nice to have a degree of course. However, I know of several people that are super intelligent, did very well in secondary school and entered the work place and upward mobility. Some are civil servants, Bankers , Hotel managers, successful business men and women. I am calling of every constituent without a degree to vote against DJ . Serpent all the way .

    • Wait, Gaston won’t mind loosing DJ and Michael Browne? Mark you he had issues with them. But could they be potential challengers for the leadership? I guess he likes all the old farts and yes people in his government. No challenge from them.
