Disgruntled CBH workers down tools to bring attention to their grievances

REAL NEWS:

Workers at the Central Board of Health (CBH) downed tools over a number of grievances – including money owed for overtime and back pay – on Wednesday morning, June 28.

Those employees who remain at the lower All Saints Road location spoke to REAL News correspondent George Wehner about their money issues and other challenges that date back five years.

The workers claimed to be unsure of the state of their negotiations, since the Government has said nothing to them or their representatives.

At present, they say, they are just existing in limbo, and so they are asking that someone update them on what is happening.

On another note, Wehner engaged the shop steward about the transportation necessary to get field workers to their respective work sites.

He referred to the fact that, at times, burials have been held up because of CBH workers arriving late at the cemetery.

A female worker stood on the picket line with her children and reported to the REAL News correspondent that her children are affected by the Government’s failure to pay.

She said her children are hungry; have been unable to get their hair cut; and need to visit a doctor for medical care.

Other workers joined her in expressing their grievances about other issues that have been impacting them.

Meanwhile, the Health Centre workers, including Vector Control staff, said that Minister of Health Sir Molwyn Joseph will not give them a listening ear.

They claimed they are treated like they do not exist – although the Government wants its work done – and they are not given the respect they deserve.

Accordingly, the employees have declared that they will not be working until they receive all they are owed, and they will not accept promises of “some now and some later.”

  1. When will the Gaston Browne administration push for the illegal printing of Antigua and Barbuda passports case to be called 🇦🇬 When will the Gaston Browne administration push for the illegal printing of Antigua and Barbuda passports case to be called 🇦🇬

    Remember January 18, 2023
    Just be patient now.
Alfa Nero proceeds of sale will be soon available.
    Lesson to the dumb voters

  2. I told you so, Gaston Browne’s electioneering money 💷 tree 🎄 wouldn’t bare fruit after his re!election.

Many enlightened people could see through he; the rest of the world and all ah dem dawg could see through the lies and falsehoods of the ABLP, and yet, many believed that the Prime Minister had changed his onerous and burdensome ways and would start paying hardworking Antiguans.

And despite this Gaston ‘$300 Million Dollar’ Browne’ was voted into office.

    Brixtonian on point once again!

  3. And the failures continue. Gaston Browne and his band of crooked failures just need to do us all a favor and resign. The country is in dire straights and will get worst as long as this idiot remains as the PM and manager of our money.
People can’t get paid and he is going to pay ( I don’t believe a word this liar says) external debts. This clown does nothing to help the poor people here, just insults and degradation. But, the dunces in our society voted for him and continue to spurt their lies for a price.
    God help us!

  4. CBH Workers must understand that Antigua is an ECONOMIC POWERHOUSE and so their money will come if they just have faith in Gaston and keep on working without being paid what is owing to them. Soon come 😞

  5. These CBH workers are greedy, deracinated economic terrorists for wanting what is owing to them! How dare they?

  6. CBH workers are trying to sabotage the government just like APUA water department workers. This has nothing to do with the fact that they have not been paid. They are playing politics.

  7. Cheap political points is one of the phrase use because you stand up for your rights also, all the workers need to come together as one and put pressure on the government for their belongings and put politics aside, the wicked demand the best but don’t desire to pay. Back pay, overtime, workers were disenfranchised for months for no jab no job.

  8. Wow wow wow Time Will Tell Brothers and Sisters returned to work they are several ways to skin the cat simple follow me make your demands give them an ultimatum a dead deadline It’s Carnival Baby your first move leaving the gabage don’t clean the streets sure you will get your funds

  9. A few people on here were suggesting that doing an inquiry into the Antigua Airways fiasco was not necessary because it will snatch up too much unnecessary funding that can be used to move our country forward in a positive way. Well who are more important than the people who work for you, who? But here we are with workers who can’t get paid for their efforts. This just keeps getting more and more embarrassing a tell yah. So are we saying that this government doesn’t have money to pay for anything? Smdh. Well if that’s the case, the government needs to be shut down because they are not serving their rightful purpose for the people. I don’t see no other way. Just collecting taxes, but yet still your budget keep falling short, Humm, something is a miss here.

Now I see why they are so hasty to sell the Alfa Nero yaught, because this government have miss appropriated it’s budget.
