In an effort to broaden awareness about disaster risks in Antigua and Barbuda, the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) has unveiled a permanent display at the National Public Library.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Management and Display project was done through funds provided by the European Union (EU) and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).
Visitors to the library will be able to get disaster information on hazards that affect the country while navigating a kiosk and browsing through various educational materials. According to Projects Officer at NODS Delamine Andrew-Williams, the goal is to continue uploading more information to the kiosk.
Another section will be installed for children so they can learn about the importance of disaster management in Antigua and Barbuda.
She says the library was chosen because of its central location which makes it easily accessible to children and adults.
As part of the initiative, some employees at the public library were engaged in a training session on Wednesday that introduced them to basic disaster management, mass casualty management, disaster telecommunications and hurricane chart tracking.
Director at the Public Library Ryllis Mannix said she was pleased that the facility was selected as a hub for disaster management information on behalf of NODS.
