Director of Education’s Statement on Transfers

11

Director of Education, Clare Browne, wishes to inform the general public that transfers will not be granted to parents/guardians making requests on behalf of Grade Six students, unless in unique circumstances.

Already, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries is bombarded with requests for alternative secondary school placements following the release of results on Friday.

According to Mr. Browne, in the unique circumstances, the reasons for the requests must be compelling and will be carefully reviewed before a decision is made to grant or deny said request.

Further, requests must be made in writing to Director of Education, Clare Browne, Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries, Government Office Complex, Queen Elizabeth Highway.

Decisions will be communicated to applicants via letters.

Appointments to meet with the Director of Education are not being allowed.

  1. As always …the favored few will get their transfers through the back door.
It is just how the system works.
    Corrupt and no equality.
As always…people ..if you want a transfer for your child/ward, just check the minister or government MP for your constituency.
That is how it works in this CORRUPT ISLAND.

THE CORRUPTION WILL BE YOUR DESTRUCTION…AND SOON….VERY SOON !

  2. Mr. Director of Education to make the process of transfer transparent, why don’t you publically lay on the table the conditions that will qualify a student for a transfer…… The PMS, Grammar & AGHS seems to schools that many student get into through the back door. Let us hope that it will not be a one man show to decide whether or not a child is transferable. It is very questionable why PMS always have the best athletes & the schools mentioned above have the best teachers

    • Food for thought.
True…PMS always get the best athletes indeed. AGS and AGHS always get the subject teachers that they required. Please leave the QUALITY TEACHERS at Jennings, All saints and especially OCS. Stop transferring them to other schools.

  3. Just imagine THE DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION DO NOT WANT TO SPEAK WITH PARENTS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

HE IS MAKING IT PLAIN THE DIRECTOR IS NOT ACCEPTING ANY APPOINTMENTS FROM PARENTS.

REMEMBER HE IS ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR STUD2NTS AND IS EEFUSING TO SPEAK TO PARENTS…..

WAIT THIS MAN CANT BE SERIOUS……. AND THE MINISTER THINKS THAT IS COOL?

  4. HE IS SO SO LARGE THAT HE DONT THINK PARENT CAN SPEAK TO HIM .
JUST LIKE HIS BROTHER REV BROWNE THEY THINK THEY ARE LARGER THAN GOD AND LARGER THAN LIFE.
HAVE YOUR DAY IT WILL SOON END.

  5. I remembered twin nephews, who was assigned to one school, ended up at AGS. And a child who qualified for Grammar school, was placed at PMS, and this injustice was so blatant, that that parent ended up having to dig into his pocket, to send that child to St. Joseph Academy. Go figure. By the was why do is a Director of Education needed, when there’s a Minister of Education. AND, what clause does he have in his contract and his surname, that makes him so powerful that he, who is paid by and works for the people, is comfortable enough as to boldly and openly state that he is NOT meeting with parents? Mr. Hadeed, the wealthiest man in Antigua, meets with anyone. Go figure, why ‘back doors’will forever be.

  6. Public announcement: Mark the date for AGHS and AGS registration and check the ‘transferred students’ section and you will see if the yearly statement is valid.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE NO one else can go to PMS. The school is bursting at its seams. 186 students assigned!! NO more can hold.

LOOK at the numbers assigned to these school…
Irene B Williams 37, Glanvilles 25, St Mary’s Centre 30 and Pares 33. They all have small numbers. Take this into consideration with your transfers and the “unique” cases.

Those numbers are actually class sizes at schools like PMS and OCS.
Can someone please explain the rationale for the discrepancy in the amount placed at each school….and don’t tell me about distance. Antigua is small and school buses are very much available.

  7. @Yeah, who are you trying to fool? The ministry of Education couldn’t give a rats cahones about the country schools. Oh, they put up some façade and act like they are concerned, but that is just one big lie. PM gets the athletes, AGHS and AGS get the top academic students. Nothing has really ever changed. The country schools, Pares for example, has been decimated by the idiot they have there posing as principal in cahoots with the Ministry of Education. Many of the good teachers have been transferred or have left because of the toxic environment there, and naturally, parents do not want their children there.
The hypocrisy and discrepancy has been there from antiquity, and the current folks in MoE are absolutely clueless.
Education is dying a slow death in Antigua and Barbuda, and our folks in office with all of their college degrees, have no clue how to stop this leakage.
