The recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Antigua and Barbuda is being caused by two variants.
The variants have been identified as the Delta and Alpha strains.
Information Minister Melford Nicholas has been speaking about the impact of these strains.
51 per cent of all COVID-19 samples sent for variant testing has revealed the Delta Variant.
Information minister Melford Nicholas says the Cabinet was given the bad news on Wednesday at its weekly meeting.

The Delta variant of COVID-19 has been called a variant of concern by WHO because of its high transmissibility.
Where the Delta variant is identified, it quickly and efficiently spreads between people.
As of 10 August, the Delta variant has been reported in 142 countries and is expected to continue spreading.
