DeFreitas to Contest St. Paul Seat as Marsh Withdraws from Slate – but Not from Party

Franz deFreitas will be contesting the St. Paul seat in the upcoming General Election, replacing Wayne Benjamin Marsh on the United Progressive Party (UPP) slate.

DeFreitas is being warmly welcomed by the St. Paul Branch executive, who recruited him, and the fearless Candidate says he is enthusiastic about his new assignment and “happy to serve.”

Political Leader Jamale Pringle has expressed confidence in deFreitas’ ability to make an immediate impact in St. Paul – especially since he has maternal roots in the village of Liberta.

A well-known advocate for youth and entrepreneurship, deFreitas hosts the program “Hard Look” every weekday on Progressive FM. In the 2023 General Election, he represented the Party in St. John’s City South.

Meanwhile, at the Central Executive Committee meeting held last night, March 24, Marsh officially tendered his withdrawal, explaining it is highly unlikely that he could complete the renunciation of his United States citizenship before the imminent elections.

However, Marsh, an attorney, noted that “operatives of the Labour Party have been spreading misinformation” about his reason for withdrawing.

Accordingly, he asserted that he remains “committed to the United Progressive Party and its ‘People First’ philosophy,” and pledged to continue working toward victory in the General Election.

The Central Executive acknowledged Marsh’s significant contributions and thanked him for the service and support he rendered in his capacity as a Caretaker.

  1. I like the spin regarding Marsh…Do people actually believe these things though?

    The mere fact Marsh can appear in front of a judge wearing black shoes and brown belt shows this man can’t be taken seriously.

UPP: You mean to tell me that Franz DeFraitas who declared that he had City South seat sewed up in his bag is going to throw that to the wind and expose himself to a shellacking by the Chet Green, the rooted and grounded MP for St Paul? A bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush. Is God able to help the UPP?

  7. Like UPP just filling in the blank spaces. With all that has been happening and the obvious signs of pending elections, candidate options and selections should have been done years ago. This doesn’t give perspective candidates enough time to “work” the constituency especially when you are up against a substantial “money chest.”

  12. This clearly shows what clowns the UPP are. St. Paul is not just Liberta. The area known as over the hill, Falmouth, Cobbs Cross and English Harbour, is a combination of England and apartheid South Africa. How is poor Franz going to navigate those areas? Chet will beat him 10 to 1. From an optimistic point of view, the only good thing is that will be the last we will see of Franz.

  13. So the end game is to put a square peg in a round hole, eh!. The pity of the folly. But politics do make strange bed fellas, and the bane of my discontent. Thus the reason I declare, and maintain an “Apolitical” stance. And just watch the game of top dog and, underdog: play out with live and living colors, in The Parish Of St. Paul’s. Do wake me up with the results when it’s over. I think I’d rather be sleeping with my dream of precious Patriotic Nationality differed. And hope that all remains well, for my personal sanity in the beloved land of my birth. What’s that thing they call politics? I’d like to know. Is it not the tribal syndrome? 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
