DeFreitas raps Government, family, community and church for failing to instill moral values in the Nation’s children

real news: Youth advocate Franz deFreitas says the society has to share the blame for the level of delinquency that now exists among the Nation’s young people.

In recent months, there has been a dramatic upsurge in crime among the youth, with a 13-year-old being a suspect in a rape investigation, while a 16-year-old has been charged for murder.

And only today, Friday, May 26, an 11-year-old was reported to have been among four youth who allegedly were involved in an attempted arson in Villa.

DeFreitas says the crisis in which the country now finds itself is the result of actions that demonstrate the lack of proper moral values.

Not only is the Government complicit, but parents, families, the extended community, and the infrastructure of the church are all at fault for the amoral manner in which children are being reared, de Freitas charges.

Meanwhile, de Freitas, the United Progressive Party caretaker for St. John’s City South, believes the Browne Administration has dropped the ball with regard to a proper holding facility for youth accused of crime.

At present, the teenager accused of the capital offence is on remand at His Majesty’s Prison – although being housed apart from the adult population.

DeFreitas says he is shocked that, to date, no one has mounted a legal challenge about the absence of a suitable facility for juvenile delinquents, as is prescribed by the law.

  1. ALP is wholly responsible for lawless occurancies throughout our nation today.
ALP committed our once God fearing nation to CSME. CARICOM affiliated member states has brought nothing but criminals and corruption to our nation on a monumental level that has turned our young people into harden criminals.

Joining CSME has not worked for Antigua apart from marginalising Antigua to the benefits of ALP. To rescue Antigua from the brink of anarchy, there is a need for purposeful measures to be put in place sending a clear message to individuals that anti social behaviour and heinous criminal activities will not be tolerated. Measures should be swift an d relevant to the crime:
Minor acts should attracts cleaning our beaches, and streets , revist the use of the tamarind whip.
House burglary and robbery: whipping and siffer prison sentence.

Heinous acts: rape and murder lethal injection or hanging.
To some, these suggestions may come across as reactionary, but I am yet to see an effective alternative. In addition, the broken Immigration Services should apply a more strigent approach with letting in criminal elements from other CARICOM nation as well start to deport overstayers.

    • @Antigua4ever.
You make a lot of sense, but sadly you are banging your head against a brick wall which is the clueless brain dead collection of dunderheads we have for a government. The punishments you suggested for various crimes are what are needed to send a no-nonsense message to the low life scum that are wreaking havoc on this once tranquil land. Sad to say none of your measures will be implemented. Those nice lawyers and judges would put a spike in your wheel. They are well protected against the havoc caused by these vermin. Sorry but Antigua is now a lost soul drowning in a sea of despair of its own making. We can only live and hope the tide will turn for the better.

    • I have to agree. I may be wrong, but I don’t feel like Antigua and Barbuda benefit more from the CSME. Maybe there are other things going on in the background that is beneficial, but at the end of the day, how much do we get from this?

    • @Aloenso

From what I observe, the ABLP seem to be the government of the day: THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY ADVICE from HM Royal opposition, UNLESS they want to ascribe blame to them.

Anything that is bad, ABLP blame the UPP, but ALWAYS want to take credit for the good things that the UPP have done.
Perhaps you should go and eat some Aloes – as your name almost suggest that you are bitter with the voice of opposition.
ABLP have destroyed the youths in this country with their ill-conceived marijuana plants authorisation.
THAT IS WHAT IS DESTROYING ANTIGUA AND BARBUDAN YOUTHS- because they wanted to garner votes.

      • As someone who works in mental health and youth, I can tell you of the youth destruction that has been taking place since under the UPP administration. Had a colleague who was shot at close range after she was able to fight off a rape attempt. We even had 19 murders in one year. People like me and same church that Franz is talking about were expendable because we were honest enough to call out the crap.
Unlike you and Franz I do not have attempt petty insults to any poster here, because I am not defending any party, I put my energy in making my country a better place.

        • @Aloenso…unless the UPP was the Ruling Arm of the Government, in the mid 1980’s until now, then and only then could they be responsible for. the management of what’s happening with the youths.
Asot had his name printed on Gang Paraphernalia, as a sponsor while he Asot was mentoring Gaston, on Garrison Style Politics which was being introduced, by the Lester Bird administration.
Yes, the UPP and other civic organizations should have done more, but only certain communities such as Point, Villa, Grays Farm, Green Bay and other communities, declared as Ghetto(state of mind)we’re being affected by GANGS(dope running, gun running, prostitution). However, now that the entire Nation is being affected, only UPP is to be blamed?

Please your Pseudo_Psychology may convince some of such nonsense(blaming only UPP), but we know REALITY says something different, Mr. Simon.

  2. poverty creates crime, it has nothing to do with moral values. The government and the system are bankrupt, with a minimum wage so low even if you do have a job you can barely get by and the social services etc are so poorly funded because of government corruption and pandering to the rich. A guaranteed minimum income, job creation scheme for the young, double the minimum wage, tax the rich to provide proper social services, confiscate the politician’s hidden offshore accounts etc etc. A lot could be done and the unions need to grow a backbone and start acting

  3. Well said Honourable Franz deFreitas, you are absolutely correct; however, Antiguans had a great opportunity to remove these current RABBLE ROUSERS from office last January, and we are now reaping what we have sown.

Hopefully, Antiguans will – in time – witness an unforseen situation or circumstance that will remove the ABLP from office.

If it’s not the African being smuggled into the country, it may well be the handing over of our sovereignty to the UNELECTED World Health Organisation. HMMM! 🤔

  4. Just like leaky gut is the precursor to autoimmune disease, leaky brain is also a precursor to neurological problems.
When susceptible children are jabbed with an experimental gene therapy that can cross the blood brain barrier causing inflammation and or degredation — coupled with foods that are highly inflammatory and devoid of nutrients, and perhaps illicit drugs/alcohol, socially unacceptable behaviours are destined to surface.

Because the prefrontal cortex of adolescent children brains aren’t fully developed, they are more likely to make irrational decisions, unable to temper their emotions, and less likely to consider the consequences of their actions.

It is essential for the developing brain to be properly nourished. Sometimes, it is a deficiency of one or two trace minerals and or an overload of toxins that triggers neurological issues. Omega-3 fatty acids are critical for the developing brain. Children’s behaviour can be predicted from their diets.

It’s a multifaceted problem that will not be fixed by a one size fits all approach.

    • I bow to your knowledge @ Sugarapple, like me you have been steadfast in informing fellow Antiguans with data analysis, peer reviewed studies and raising the voices of the medical experts that were being silenced by the globalatariat and pharmaceutical companies.

2-3 years ago, there were only a handful of us (like yourself and Angel) that realised we weren’t being told the truth or fully informed about the harmful effects of mRNA trial vaccines.

We had our detractors (like @ Say What! Whatever happened to him?), but we stuck to our guns and reported the other side of the medical narrative using experts, facts and whistle-blowers.

Now look 2-3 years on, sadly there’s been millions around the world with adverse reactions to these vaccines, and Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS); and in recent times in the UK, heart problems in children is on the increase.

As I told you in the past, we are on the right side of history.

  5. What happened to the boys training school? Formerly known as skerrirt??
We need a place so that young people who get in trouble can be rehabilitated!
Why aren’t the government not looking after the young?
Yet they have money to do other things, like building big grand house in jolly harbor hmm
Plus money to go see king get crowned and stop off in the states hmmm
Yet, we gave them three trees and how many grams to smoke..
The chickens have come home to roost!!
The current government gave them weed to spoke, just to get voted..shame!

  6. As I read this dribble, my mind went back to early in the UPP term in office, Quinn was then minister of education. Her plan was to extend the school hours. Consultations were held but a major stake holder, teachers, barked against it. They loudly proclaimed they are not baby sitters. There ended what was a good initiative. The leaders in the ministry of education need to make this happen

    • @Tenman
Never mind only extending the school hours. Children are leaving school at fifteen and sixteen. If they don’t go to State College, what do they do? No employer is going to hire these young children. So the children just walk about the place causing mischief with their parents at work. Children should be in some sort of program until they are at least eighteen, whether it is academic or a skills program. An eighteen year old is far more mature. With the Harrison Centre, children will have a place to acquire a skill. Antigua also needs a “Skerrit” and a girls home for the real delinquent children to sort them out.
We have to get these children off the streets.

    • Tenman, how do you do it? I just cannot bring myself to comment on things said by someone that cannot even spell the word “GRATEFUL”.

  7. Time to clean up the carnival festival and stop all them females from exposing their naked sloppy backsides to the children of the nation. Carnival is a family event. Swimwear is for the beach and swimming pool.

  8. FRANZ should go back to school to learn read and spell. UPP the house of CRIMINALS.BANKRUPT Franz should shut His BIG BIG Mouth.

    • @ PETE

you know why there is so much CRIME taking place in the country: BECAUSE CRIMINALS (ABLP IS IN CONTROL).
You need to GO AND SOLVE ALL THE ILLS IN THE COUNTRY, including as ASOT SAY:
Where did a man who never had anything in opposition and was constantly bouncing cheques get his wealth from?
THAT IS THE OUTCOME OF ACTIVITIES FROM CRIMINALS: JUST ASK FOOTBALL CHET, ROLLS ROYCE MOLWYN et al-
And you have the AUDACITY to be calling people CRIMINALS-YOU BAREFACED ABLP MINIONS

  10. Our kids are being raised by social media. They are slowly being radicalized, and now AI technology is taking over social media. It is just a matter of time before they start to murder their own parents.

  11. @BAREFACED

Look within the UPP that’s where the MURDERER RAPPISTS, CHILD MOLESTERS are. So don’t blame ABLP. ABLP is UNITED.

  12. @PETE

RAPIST AND CHILD MOLESTORS?…you do not have to look further than two of your prime ministers, one who is married to his God-child and not to mention the former PM VCB, who dated a 15 year old………do you want to continue?
    The child sex ring?
THE THING ABOUT YOU ABLP SUPPORTERS IS THAT Y’ALL ARE SO HYPOCRITICAL. YOU KNOW YOUR THIEVING MP’S ARE AS GUILTY AS HELL AS PONTIOUS PILATE BUT YOU STILL

    • @ PETE

Jump High Jump Low- neither YOU, GASTON NOR ANY ONE OF THE MINIONS CAN MOVE HIM FROM THERE, YOU KNOW WHY?
THE PEOPLE VOTED FOR HIM OVERWHELMINGLY INSPITE OF ALL THE MUD AND DIRT Y’ALL TRIED TO THROW AT HIM. HE JUST LITERALLY BLEW AWAY WESTON.
AS FOR THE ABLP, YOURS IS AN ILLEGITIMATE GOVERNMENT THROUGH FRAUD- AS THE PRIME MINISTER ADMITTED THAT HE HELPED IN THE TRANSFER OF VOTERS TO ASSIST HIS COLLEAGUES IN WINNING THEIR SEAT, HENCE HADNT HE DONE THAT YOU WOULD NOT HAVE WON THE ELECTION.
KEEP ON BOWEN’S BACK, BECAUSE HE BEAT THE ABLP WITH A BULL-BUD, AND THAT IS HURTING YOU GUYS SO BADLY. ‘I WILL PITY YOUR SIMPLICITY’, YOU ARE A SORE LOSER IF EVER THERE WAS ONE.

  14. @ PETE

Oh, I forgot to respond on the ‘PRO MIGIC’ matter, though your spelling is so poor- seems to me you are a kindergarten, quite ironically calling me ‘DUNCE’ when you cannot even spell!

ANYWAY BACK TO THE MATTER AT HAND, JUST LIKE MAGIC IS NOT AN MP NOR CANDIDATE AND YOU CANNOT CONTROL THE ACTIONS OF ALL THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT THE UPP, SO YOU CANNOT CONTROL THE ACTIONS OF THE BROTHER OF THE PRIME MINISTE🤣R WHO HAS BEEN CHARGED AND SENTENCED FOR RAPE- GO FIGURE YOU DUMB IMBECILE
