Defence To Appeal 17-Year Rape Sentence

A man who was recently sentenced to 17 years in prison for raping his former girlfriend is appealing the decision.

The 36-year-old defendant was found guilty on one of two rape charges stemming from a July 22, 2019 incident, a month after their relationship ended.

Testimony revealed the perpetrator lured the victim with the promise of repaying a $30,000 loan, forced her into a car, drove to an isolated area, and assaulted her.

Despite her claims of a second rape, the jury only convicted him on one charge.

The appeal will challenge the logic of convicting on one charge but not the other, given their close timing.
