Dear Kate, He gave me an STI

0

Dear Kate

Recently, I’ve been diagnosed with a STI.
I was shocked because I only had one partner for the past 2 years (my boyfriend).
During the course of our sexual relations, I have never developed any infections. When confronted about it, he confessed that he had sex multiple times with ‘a friend’ he only knew for a couple months. He also stated that condoms were used.
I am heartbroken but I am deeply in love with this man. He has helped me a lot, mentally and financially. We have both been through a lot but this is too much.
I find it hard to leave and I want to forgive him and stay but my trust in him has crumbled. I feel betrayed, knowing that i was loyal to him. What do you suggest I do?
– Betrayed
Dear Betrayed

It’s always ok to forgive someone but I doesn’t mean that we have to love them more than ourselves.
What if that STD was HIV?  It is clear that this man is putting your life at risk and you should by no means take this lightly.
You remained faithful in the relationship while he explored.
Love yourself enough to know that you deserve better. You should also get tested for HIV or any other STD.
It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Kate
