A social media post by former St. George MP Dean Jonas has been making the rounds and has left some wondering who he might be describing as a donkey leader in the post.
Some pundits say Jonas s lashing out against the leader of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party.
Here’s the post: A donkey leader is an incompetent and greedy leader who can only command a group of syco[hants and yes-men. This leader is stubborn, selfish, and ignorant of the needs and opinions of others. They care about their own interests and benefits, and they exploit their followers for their own gain. They are unable to inspire, motivate, or empower anyone, and they resort to bullying, cutthroat attacks, threats, lies, and manipulation to maintain their authority. They are the worst kind of leaders and they should be exposed and removed from leadership.
In 2020 Jonas — the then Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Barbuda Affairs — was fired and removed from the Gaston Browne Cabinet.
Chief of Staff Lionel Max Hurst said at the time that Jonas had also been released as a member of the Cabinet with immediate effect.
Jonas was fired moments after Prime Minister Gaston Browne met with about 40 workers under Jonas’ ministry at the Agriculture headquarters on independence Avenue. The firing came in the wake of what was termed as a toxic environment between Jonas and his ministry and farmers.

Prime Minister Browne said the suspension period was for reflection and contemplation as to how to achieve reconciliation.
Six months later, Jonas was returned to Cabinet assuming the position of Minister for Social Transformation and the Blue Economy.
In the January 2023 elections Algernon ‘Serpent’ Watts won the constituency of St George, which was then held by Jonas.
Watts — a first-time politician — defeated Jonas by polling 2,146 to 2006 votes, thereby amassing the most votes by a single candidate in the polls.

Mr. Jonas’s comments could be looked at in another light. Mr. Jonas lost the last elections that was held. He represented his constituents in Parliament. He may have felt that he deserved to be reelected. The majority of his constituents felt differently and elected Honourable Algernon “Serpent” Watt. His article may very well be an expression of rage, disappointment and anger against his constituents. If Honourable Watt looses in the next election he may very well choose to express his sentiments too. Meanwhile the ABLP is employing strategies to win back that constituents because they intend to win. Chess verses Checkers my peoples.

This sounds like he’s describing the UPP “leaders”. The cut throat operatives , the way they don’t listen, the way they surround themselves with yes people etc.
Gaston is building his (Browne Dynasty) ABLP party of ministers/candidates from strong UPP supporters. Gaston does not want anyone who is a strong labour party to be in his dynasty. He is shedding the regular ABLP candidates one by one. I am waiting to see who the next person from the UPP he will choose for St Phillip’s North Candidacy. It could be George Wehner or Alex Brown if the price is right.

To think, the Gastonites would have us believe that this idiot who disgraces our PM office, has not been the root cause of all the discords,divisions and chaos in ALP. I say,it is all by design. ALP, like most corrupt,greedy,dishonest,power hungry administrations in history,, has imploded, or fallen from within.
Asot was ousted under the guise of corruption(the pot calling the kettle black); Samantha Marshall was brushed aside like dust off the balance,when she had outlived her use to be replaced with a reprehensible traitor, against the wishes of the executives, who got his a$$ kicked.

I always wondered why any of the ABLP cabinet members wouldn’t speak out against the Prime Minister.
They are not only scared of Gaston, but they are protecting their ministerial positions, because they know they will end up like Dean Jonas. Damn!
Anyone that has taken the time to read what Dean Jonas has actually said (though it was veiled and poorly disguised) that every word uttered clearly describes Gaston Browne down to a “T”.
You only have to look at how fast he was removed from prominence amongst the ABLP. Kooyah!

Two Labour Party candidates that should be much ashamed that they lost their seats to the UPP. One is Dean Jonas and the other is Lennox Weston. Both men gave the PM assurances that they had things under control. And both men had the state apparatus to make a difference. Dean went down because his arrogance. he under estimated his opponent. While Lennox was just pure laziness. Therefore the PM has every right to tell them he don’t want to see them no more.

Brix. What is wrong with what I said then vs what I say now. I welcomed him back into the Cabinet and offered some advice. Dean was very vindictive toward UPP people in certain government offices. The PM wouldn’t have nothing of that and that is why he clashed with the PM. The entire ministry of Agriculture complained to the PM about him. So the PM at one time had to let him chill out. Dean has a personalty problem. If you do not know him he is not very approachable. For a politician that is very bad. Now running against Jaqui was different because she was also very arrogant and had used up her poltical credit very early. Especially when the woman of New Winthropes got shot at the bus station and when the villigars approached her for medical assistance she blasted them. People don’t forget things from politicians. So they voted her out. Dean suffered the same arrogance. And he under estiated Serpent. And therefore the PM blamed him for having lost to Serpent. If it’s one person the PM had never hoped would’ve been in our parliament its Serpent. And with respect to Lennox. That man was pure lazyness to walk the roads and visit every home. He ate too much and was just overweight. Anyway I asked the PM once if he doesn’t think to have a mandotory wellness program for his ministers. And you know the two that needed it for sure. Cutie and Lennox. So Brix I don’t know what it is you fret about my statement from then and now. I’m very consistant. When I don’t agree with the PM I’ll say so.

This simply means that you cannot debate with me. My arguments have left you speechless. You really belong on the UPP side in Parliament. Whenever you follow any parliamentary debate they are lost for words. Then as soon as parliament is over they go on the airwaves and lambaste the government. Shows you they are not ready for prime time in parliament. Baldwin Spencer was a much better opposition candidate then any of them in the nineteen eighties and nineties.
