The 47-year-old died following a traffic collision on Sir Sydney Walling’s Highway on Saturday, 27 April.

It is alleged that the driver of a white Honda Fitz motor car, A67300 was travelling from West to East on Sir Sydney Wallings Highway at fast speed, when he proceeded to overtake another vehicle, and in the process collided with the vehicle driven by Willock.

The impact forced Willock’s car off the road to the Southern side, where it came to a stop.

The EMS arrived on the scene and transported both drivers to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center. Willock was pronounced dead on Monday, 29 April at 2:35 pm.

The police expresses condolences to his family.

  1. When we have good roads people don’t know how to drive. The potholes are there to slow us down and keep us humble. 😐😬

  2. I think that teaching people to drive in Antigua, at speeds of 20 km per hour, then give them licence to drive above 20 mph, is where the problem starts. In America and other countries, you must learn to drive at the minimum speed limit of 45 mph. 20 km per hour doesn’t make any sense except to have everyone crawling behind the car. Then they become a licence driver and don’t know how to safely drive at a higher speed, because they were never taught how to drive at speeds above crawling.

    • Sorry, you have not done your research if you are comparing road fatalities in the USA and Antigua. About half of the population of Antigua die from road fatality in the USA each year. Yes the population is larger but the rate per 100,000 inhabits is also about double. You would have done a better job if you compared us to Europe

But yes, our target should be zero, and there are few things that can be done to achieve this or close to the target.

    • So, are you proposing that they go overseas to learn to drive? Not that I agree that 20mph is ideal: But, as stated, the deceased was driving at an exceedingly fast unsafe rate of speed and, had attempted to overtake another vehicle; so the problem was not the road but, the driver. I have driven in the USA for over 50 years and have had minor incidents of no fault collisions. Driving in Antigua is an experience of terrifying intimidation: in that most of the drivers don’t have an appreciation of the privilege afforded to be competent drivers- and the males seemed to have developed an insane affinity for speed, and risk taking: where they disregard road rule and regulations for their macho intent. Such as overtaking on steep incline and around blind corners. Not using dimmer at night, side mirrors closed-in, and blatant disregard for other road users. Yes, the roads are in need of broadening with shoulder ramp accommodation and paint markings to include parallel for no passing and broken stripped to indicate permissible overtaking. Signalling is another concern ignored or, engage at the last moment, when intended to turn. Jotting into the intersection as if not expecting any other traffic. Tailgating, and traveling in procession and, not giving way for oncoming traffic when another vehicle is stopped. These are some of my vexing observation from driving in Antigua. Yes! The Government could be blamed too, for not enhancing and, maintaining the road conditions per se, which seemed to be a deliberate non-compliance reaction: and haphazardly done at best by the (PWD) work crews. (YET) With all the overseas begging done by our esteemed elected representatives. It behooves me, that they would neglect to beg for assistance in material and, resources to effect this; the most critically wanting part of the total crumbling national infrastructures. R.I.P Young Brother: Condolences to you family.

      • @Handit2me…
You’re #handinIT2dem, as to how and where a [progressive] Nation like ours should be heading.

        …habits, become Norms!
…norms, become A Way Of Life
…a way of life, defines A People!
        …a people, defines a Culture!

Speed and aggressive driving have always being a part, of the driving culture in Antigua, and it’s not just the youths.

Unfortunately, we have the tendency, either to ridicule what you’re saying or ignore such information altogether.

        #Condolences to the bereaved!

      • Condolences to his friends, family and coworkers. I hope justice prevails in this situation and I hope this accident is properly investigated and the driver that extinguished your light is prosecuted accordingly and persecuted justly.

Sleep in peace my brother the gentle giant – O God, forgive our living and our dead, those who are present among us and those who are absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O God, whoever You keep alive, keep him alive, and whoever You cause to die, cause him to die with faith. O God, do not deprive us of the reward and do not cause us to go astray after this. O God, forgive him and have mercy on him, keep him safe and sound and forgive him, honor his rest and ease his entrance; wash him with water and snow and hail, and cleanse him of sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. O God, give him a home better than his home and a family better than his family. O God, admit him to Paradise and protect him from the torment of the grave and the torment of Hellfire; make his grave spacious and fill it with light.

      • It is not stated that the deceased was driving at a high speed. Someone else was and collided with him.
You love chat your stinkin mout and nah read the article properly.

  3. The potholes really help in slowing them down. They too many careless drivers on the road. Are everybody on drugs?

  4. Following its intensive remake, Sydney Wallings Highway was properly signed 20MPH. These signs disappeared, never replaced. All roadways need speed signs as a priority. Road safety programs emphasized, and the road laws applied.
These small, inexpensive, highly powered, low costs vehicles, like the Fit and the Vitz, due in large part to their popularity seem especially guilty of road safety accidents.
How much value do we place on life and limb in Antigua Barbuda? Our Insurance Companies need to step up to funding a comprehensive Road Safet Program.
    The existing Road Safety atrocious.

  5. One of the issues that I have with the drivers in Antigua is the fact that they choose to drive recklessly when the roads are paved. Only two weeks ago, I experienced some unnecessary overtaking and poor turning judgment calls by drivers where I had to implement defensive driving techniques to avoid collisions. The brand or model of the vehicle ought not be blamed.
We want good roads but we’re not being responsible in road safety.

  6. Condolences. We big up the traffic squad the other day, but this over taking routine been going on for ever and is the big cause of many accidents, some fatalities, but the traffic police have a tendency to over looked, so I guess it’s the norm.
The task on hand is to remark the roads all across the island, solid and broken, with broken highlighted as the only time to over take, unless the path before you is 100% clear to so do, plus speed limits here means nothing.

  7. It was not Willick who was driving and overtaking according to the aforementioned news article. It was the other driver who overtook someone and collided with him thus driving Willock’s vehicle off the road! Condolences to the family!

  9. Y’all were not taught to drive properly.eg.
To make a right turn,,80%of U,,swing your vehicles,,to the extreme left side of the road,to then turn the car sideways,,to wait,to turn.
VEHICLE SHOULD BE AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO CENTER OF ROADWAY,KEEPING WHEELS STRAIGHT TO WAIT FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO TURN.
You rarely use turn signals and most times ,,when you do,,,you’ve already started the turn.
A TURN SIGNAL,,SHOULD BE DEPLOYED,,100ft MINIMUM FROM YOUR TURN.
MY RULE OF THUMB FOR ANTIGUA IS TURNSIGNAL B4 U STEP ON THE BRAKE.
    TO ROUND THIS OFF.

STAY ON YOUR SIDE OF DA FUKING ROAD,,,EVEN IN A TURN.

  10. Some the most reckless drivers I have seen are in Antigua. They would overtake multiple cars at anytime. They do not stop at STOP SIGNS in St.Johns.
