CXC to Engage Regional Ministers Over Suspension of Technical Subjects

The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has responded to concerns about suspending four technical subjects by announcing plans to engage with regional Ministers of Education.

CXC recently decided to discontinue certification for Green Engineering, Agricultural Science (double award), Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering due to low enrolment rates.

Following public backlash, CXC affirmed its commitment to due process, stating that discussions would take place before making any final decisions on these subjects.

“This situation is regrettable and understandably would have caused anxiety among our key stakeholder groups. CXC has scheduled a meeting with the Ministers of Education and will provide a full update to the public thereafter,” the council said.

The meeting’s outcome, scheduled for June 4, will be shared with the public.
