Customs Officers Receive Overtime Payments As Promised By The Government

9

The Antigua and Barbuda Customs and Excise Division is pleased to report that the Government has honoured its commitment to pay officers their overtime by January.

A total of six months of overtime have been paid to the hard working men and women of the Customs Division over the past week, reducing significantly the government’s debt to the officers who have been tirelessly working to ensure revenues are collected and that the country’s borders are protected.

Comptroller of Customs Mr. Raju Boddu has expressed profound appreciation to Minister of Finance, Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance the Hon. Lennox Weston, the cabinet and the entire team in the Ministry of Finance for making good on their promise.

“I would also like to say thank you to all the officers who displayed immeasurable patience and considerable sacrifice in continuing to work long hours to achieving yet another record breaking year,” Boddu stated. “We are beyond grateful.”

Mr. Boddu was however quick to acknowledge that there is still more months to be cleared but assured of his commitment to remain diligent in his efforts to ensure that the payments continue.

  1. TACTICAL EASE OF MDIA PRESSSURE MOVE – COMPTROLLER

An apparent very ‘…Tactical Ease of Media Pressure Move’ by ‘…Comptroller of Customs, Raju Boddu.’

Very ‘gud’ move Comptroller (Ras Smood’s spelling) and very ‘…wise and compassionate decision,’ Finance Minister, ‘…Gaston Browne.’

Always ‘says’ what he means, and when possible, ‘does’ what he says.’

And why this ‘…Duncy Bat’ screwing up his face?’

Aint goin get me saying what should not be said on the ‘…settled payment issue.’

    Na-a-ah, ‘…Duncy Boy.’

Free to say any darn thing you want to say.

But watch yo’ darn ‘…beak and wings’ though.

    For the ‘…Long overdue Overtime Payments,’ know that;

    (i) …The then dissatisfied Customs officers would not be complaining; and

(ii) …The inquisitive Media would not be ‘…provocative’ or ‘…luring’ him into saying what he doesn’t want to reveal.

    Still not darn sure, if this would stop the Media from ‘…inquiring’ about the alleged;

    (a) ‘…Massive EC$3.3 Million Fraud committed against his Department; and

(ii) …The darn near fatal shooting of one of his subordinates.’

Though ‘…unsolicited,’ can advise the Media to leave ‘…Raju Boddu’ alone.

Since the office of ‘…Comptroller of Customs’ is one of ‘…Public Trust,’ can advise the ‘…office holder’ to ‘…pay the Media some respectful attention.’

They might just ’embracing,’ and the ‘…office holder,’ may have little or ‘…no reason to see them as adversaries.’

Even so, not for one moment, suggesting that the holder of such an important office should be seen as ‘…lying in bed; …grass; or mud’ with anyone of them.

No Sah, not saying so at all.

Might ‘ketch’ a virus ‘…far different’ to the darn one people in ‘…China and Hong Kong’ ‘ketching’ and dying.’

    • MEDIA VIRUS

      Just dawn on me.

      Might ‘ketch’ ‘…Media Fever.’

A darn bad fever to ‘ketch’ as well.

Though not ‘…physically deadly,’ still ‘…mentally troubling’ to victims.

  2. REALLY?…..Hard working officers are rewarded by payment of long outstanding overtime and they should be thankful? for what? Next you will be thanking the top dawg for paying officers their salary…just how much ass-kissing can you do? What about those officers who do not work overtime, what is their reward? GIVE ME A BREAK. Another thing…six months out of sixteen months is not significant reduction, every kinder garden child knows that. Mr Comptroller i think are confusing overtime payment with bonuses….so please next time you feel like kissing ass at least do it for a bonus not for what you worked for

    • GOT YAH INPECTOR

Seems you were given a rank ‘…way above your ability.’

Never met a ‘…Kind Garden’ yet.

None ever say hello to me.

But have met some very fruitful ones.

Have met numerous ‘…Kind People,’ including a fellow who is really not quite as ‘…Dunce’ as a ‘…Bat’ and one called ‘…Ras Smood.’

      Now,’…Confusing Overtime with Bonus?’

Might be ‘…administratively weak,’ but the Comptroller is not so bad.

Though they are infants, sure every ‘…KINDERGARTEN’ child could spell this darn word.

      Heard of a story once.

Two little boys, perhaps about ‘…6 and 8 years old;’ the six year-old was given the word ‘;…Mosquito’ to spell, while the eight year-old was given the word ‘…Cow’ to spell.

The one that had to spell ‘Cow’ protested, and reportedly asked, ‘…Teacher how come you give me this big animal to spell and gave him the small insect to spell?

Neither of the two little boys could spell the darn words given by the Teacher.

Baffled, the Teacher reportedly told them that the words were given according to their ‘…intelligence,’ and not according to size.’

She reportedly advised them to take that up with their parents when they return home.

Not sure who the hell this commenter would meet at home, but can refer him/her to our ‘…gud frenz ‘…Duncy Bat and his brother, Rock Head.’

If they cannot help, then they may see another ‘..gud fren,’ Ras Smood.’

Watch out for, but do not ignore the spelling of these two words, ‘…Ganja and Irieness.’

He must understand those are not the words you want to know how to spell.

Spelling ‘…gud fe the vocabulary and brain,’ but this ‘…Inspector ‘…could lose this rank’ if he/she start ‘…chimneying and Irieing’ (new words).

      Bad for spelling.

      • TOLD YOU SO

Though not ‘…Chimneying and Irieing,’ not even ‘…Inspector,’ is correctly spelt.

Just pointed out by ‘…Duncy Bat.’

        Gud observation ‘Bat.’

        Spelled correctly below though.

  3. Paying people what they work for is big news for you? And just how did the government keep their promise? From my understanding the officers are still owed TEN MONTHS overtime.

  4. Mr Baddou need to explain how a single, one single custom’s officer can earn fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) in over time for a six month period…. under his diligent watch with his level of experience that no other in Antigua has. (Rumor no confirmed)

Customs has no accountability with the overtime scheme.

It would be cheaper to hire additional employees, also reducing the unemployment rate at the same time.

Invest in fingerprint time clocks and compare the data over a three month period.

    • GOOD POINT MELLIE – HIRE MORE OFFICERS

Not sure from where ‘…Mellie’ got it that ‘…an Overtime Scheme’ exists.

But ‘…Good Point’ in cutting down on ‘…fringe monetary benefits’ due to working overtime.

      ‘…Hire more employees.’
