Culture Minister Paul Chet Greene has thrashed the nation’s calypso and soca artiste calling them a “shame” and no good.
Addressing a music workshop at the Multipurpose Cultural Centre today, Greene he said could name one good calypsonian in Antigua & Barbuda today if he was challenged to do so.
“Oh God man ah shame. I cannot call one,” he emphasized.
The minister said it is sad that those calypsonians who are in need of development are not attending the weekly workshops.
He also blasted calypso writers for being too political.
Switching is attention to soca, Greene said only a handful of them were any good.
“Not even a handful. I will call them by name: Claudette Peters, Tian Winter, Ricardo Drue and sometimes Menace.”
“I am talking about artiste who are consistently good,” the culture minister added after being challenged by some in the audience.
He committed to fixing what he called a “national problem” by going into the community and finding new talent.
