Cultural Unit Host Junior Calypso And Soca Workshop

St. John’s, Antigua………………. The Cultural Unit within the Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries is pleased to advise the general public that we will conduct a series of Junior Calypso and Junior Party Monarch Workshops.

These Workshops are extended to youths between the ages of 5 to 19 years with a desire to gain a more profound knowledge of the art form.

The workshop will commence Saturday, 6th May 2023, at the Villa Primary School from 9 am to 12:00 noon.

Participants will be separated into two groups of 5 – 12 years and 13 – 19 years and will cover Song Writing, Stage Performance and Vocal Training.

The sessions will be facilitated by some of Antigua’s iconic Arrangers, Calypsonians and Soca artists and promise to be a monumental step in molding our young aspiring artists.

Mr Khan Cordice, the Director of the Cultural Unit, stated, “These workshops are specifically geared towards developing our young Calypsonians and Soca artists, which will provide continuity within the art form.

This gives me a good feeling as we work towards ensuring that calypso and soca maintain their rightful place during the annual festival”.

To register, interested persons must bring their completed registration forms to the Villa Primary School on the day of the workshop.

Forms can be collected from the Culture on Lower Nevis Street, Festivals office on Redcliffe Street or Creative Industries office on Old Parham Road. For further information, contact the Culture Unit at (268) 562-1724, Jagga Martin at (268) 464-0535 or Oliver Destroyer Jacobs at (268) 774-5621.

Working towards a culture of excellence.
