Culture Minister Paul ‘Chet’ Greene has announced that sculptors from Cuba are to construct a park in honour of those who died during slavery.

“I mentioned earlier the commissioning of the sculpture park right there in Ottos on the lands formerly known as the Ottos Primary School,” Greene told the budget debate.

“Those lands, for those of us who study history, know that they hold very key significance to the slave trade,” he told lawmakers.

Since his initial announcement, the minister says he has had discussions with the Cuban government.

“And the Cuban sculptors that I mention are en route to Antigua and in this, the first quarter, the sculptures park, at least the commencement of it will become a reality.”
