West Indies managed just one wicket as India continued their fightback in the second session on the opening day of the first Test here Thursday.

At the tea interval – taken early due to a sharp shower – the visitors were 134 for four with Ajinkya Rahane unbeaten on 50 and Hanuma Vihari on 18.

The only casualty of the session was opener KL Rahul who was dismissed for 44 after resuming from lunch unbeaten on 37.

He faced 97 balls and struck five fours before feathering a leg-side catch to wicketkeeper Shai Hope off part-time off-spinner Roston Chase, on the cusp of the first hour.

However, Rahane remained solid and so far put on a critical 41 for the fifth wicket with Vihari. He reached his 18th half-century in Tests just before the rains arrived when he punched seamer Miguel Cummins to cover for a couple.

He has faced 122 deliveries and struck seven fours while Vihari has counted two fours in a 37-ball knock.

Seamer Kemar Roach has been the best bowler with two for 24 after accounting for  right-handers Mayank Agarwal (5) and Cheteshwar Pujara (2) in the fifth over of the morning, as India slipped to 25 for three after being sent in.
