Head of the lab at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, Dr. Lester Simon, has painted a grim picture of the COVID situation in the country.

He says if vaccination rates remain as they are, the situation will not improve.

  3. When the Prime Minster brought the grim message, we shut the messenger instead of listening to the message. Because we didn’t like messenger, we asked that the politician take a backseat and let the professionals do the talking. Well, the PM has more than listened and the professionals are bringing us the same message. Are we now going to listen, or are we going to look for some more lame excuses as to why not to get vaccinated? Well, if you think time is on your side, go ahead. Wait! For your sake I hope Covid doesn’t visit you before it’s too late for you. As far as I see it, you’re not only putting your life at risk, but that of the entire country. And that is where I believe your right stops. If it is about you and your life alone? Well, no one would care. But when your action puts my life in danger, I think I have the right to request that you either vaccinate or isolate yourself from the society you want to be part of. In the old days people with infectious diseases could not live among heathy people. They had to live in colonies. One can remember Lepra colonies. Perhaps we should start thinking about Covid colonies. And or Un-vaccinated colonies. And ban them to come and live among us the vaccinated people. I’m just tired of having to bear the consequences of another person’s stupidity. To the point where it can cost me my life. Just remember no one’s right is absolute. And in a democracy the aye’s have it.

    • That is the problem. When we heard from the politicians, we didn’t believe them and asked for the medical fraternity to speak. When the medical fraternity spoke, we called them mouth pieces for the politicians.

      Just can’t win. Meanwhile the innocent will continue to suffer for the guilty at the expense of all and instead of owning up to our negligence, we will just point the finger at the politicians, and the doctors and the tourists, and whoever else…..SAD just sad!

Max Hurst put forward the same fallacy this morning on Darren Ward’s show without any evidence whatsoever. Did the FREEDOM FIGHTERS cause the recent outbreak at the Royalton Hotel? Will the FREEDOM FIGHTERS be responsible for any increase coming from the repast on the evening of the 26 August, 2021 at the Sir Viv Stadium where it was all eating and drinking and feting following Sir Lester’s funeral. You guys need to stop politicking with so serious an issue. Perhaps as Dr. Simon has indicated many of the increased cases could be imported. With the laxity that prevails at our borders the increasing cases should not be surprising. Now, the Barbuda Council is trying to safeguard its small population from covid, while on the other hand Gaston Browne is telling PLH bring in as many workers you like at any time you want. When and if we see an increase in covid cases in Barbuda, it will be as a result of the UPP and the FREEDOM FIGHTERS.

When I referred to “speculation and guess work” in the spreading of covid I was referring to GRAM and MAX HURST and not Dr. LESTER SIMON. In fact, I was agreeing with Dr. Simon that the increasing cases of covid could be imported (whether tourists or returning nationals). Also, please note that my comment had nothing to do with the taking of the vaccine. My only focus was to refute the false narrative of Max Hurst and the government that the picket of the FREEDOM FIGHTERS was a covid super spreader. All I am requesting is the evidence for that claim and not baseless politicking. I hope you now understand my point and not interpret it through tainted political lens and bias.

    • Tabor, in case you missed it the Acting Chief Medical Officer gave the same answer as Max when she was asked about the eleven police officers being infected with Covid. It most likely happened at the picket of that day. These are opinions of the medical professionals based on the data that they have. But you see, anytime a politician or for that matter a labour party politician says something, it is a lie. And I’m sure Max was only relating a message he got from the medical professionals that came to Cabinet and reported their findings. And by you making this claim you are putting people’s life in danger. Because many that follow you will say it’s OK to go and protest and don’t protect yourself. It has been proven many times before that Covid spread when crowds of people are together unprotected. And that picket had many unprotected people. That is a fact. I hope you also heard the dumb argument these people made on Darren’s show yesterday morning. As far as they are concern, we need to live with Covid the same way we live with Aids and Cancer. it shows you their level of intellect is very low. And there is an African proverb “If you and a fool have an argument, he succeeds”.

      • FROM THE SIDELINE I was a student of the social sciences and when one makes a statement such as the Acting CMO and Max Hurst I need to see the basis for the statement. By the way, why did all the police officers who allegedly caught covid at the picket of 8 August, 2021 go to the picket unprotected? I repeat, no evidence has been provided by the CMO or any one else to show the causal link between the police officers covid and the picket.
