“COVID-19, Land and the Future of the Caribbean” will be in full focus this Saturday 29th May, 2021 during a virtual panel discussion to be hosted by the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) and the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
The event brings together the English, Dutch, French and Spanish Caribbean; and highlighting the particular role of youths – will be a feature keynote address by Hugh Todd – Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation of the Republic of Guyana, and an impressive line-up of panellists, including Professor Richard Byron-Cox, a leading expert in sustainable development.
Topics to be covered during the event include, Land and Food Security, Land and Climate Change, Land and Water Management, and Land and Biodiversity. There will be a special exposé on the consequences of the on-going volcanic eruption in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The event runs from 10 am until 12 pm this Saturday 29th May, featuring highlights from a video competition of youth working in areas of the environment and will be live streamed online across the entire Caribbean.
The general public – particularly youth; are invited to join this dialogue asking their questions and proposing solutions.
The current global pandemic has created many challenges for various sectors including public health, tourism, food security and overall livelihoods in the Caribbean.
This discussion is aimed at energizing the young citizens of the Caribbean to play a more active role in the post-COVID-19 future of their common home.
CYEN and UNCCD encourages all youths to participate in the video competition aimed at sharing innovative projects and/or ideas on sustainable land management that could help inspire others and have a positive impact across the Caribbean. Winning submissions will be promoted at the webinar.
