Officers involved in the chase and shooting of Mannie James have been placed on counselling leave after being taken off frontline duty.

Superintendent Lesborne Michael from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) revealed this during a Cabinet press briefing.

The 45-year-old James was fatally shot in Grays Farm while unarmed during a routine stop-and-search operation.

Eyewitnesses reported the chase’s conclusion and no firearms found on James or in his vehicle.

Although he had no criminal record, James was known to the police.

Police administration expressed sympathy to his family and appealed for public cooperation during stop-and-search operations.

  1. The officer(s) that fired the rounds should be protected. This is an Extra-Judicial homicide and reckless behavior due to the other residents present. This is no different than the murder of an unarmed Black man in America by white police officers.

  3. Really need to understand why they shoot him he was unarmed he running away from you why shoot him….only you police men make the mistake and shoot one of your mothers household you will understand…your job is to protect and serve…police men are not reformers like before most of them nowadays damaging society than the good they suppose to do don’t get me wrong they have good ones but majority are ignorant and need to be school again and most of all they need the love of GOD…

    • What is your point exactly?? How offensive to his family and friends! And this is such a small minded conclusion that he must have had something to hide. Could he have just been scared?? Such an irrelevant question and conclusion. Because he ran away does this make the killing justifiable?? Based on how they handled him I understand why anyone would try to avoid confrontation with Antiguas ignorant police.

  4. The man was scared out of his mind he knew he was in deep trouble and he was trying to evade the lawmen believing he would of been beaten or sadly what eventually ended his life…During the vehicle chase shots were fired at the lawmen which led them to believe Manny could of been armed and that’s why a single round was fired at him…Very sad situation
