Cooks Sanitary Landfill And Civic Amenity Site Revise Its Hours Of Operations

In a press release, the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) says the waste-disposal site will be operating for limited hours, from April 2 to April 9, the duration of the 24-hour lockdown.

The landfill will be open from Monday to Friday from 6 am to 1pm, the NSWMA says. However, on the weekend, the landfill will be closed.

Persons using the Cooks site are advised to follow all the guidelines and protocols put in place in order to protect workers, contractors and customers.

Residents should protect themselves and others while packaging and disposing of waste, the Authority says. To this end, the NSWMA has suspended, with immediate effect, all recycling and waste-picking activities at the landfill.

It says persons should ensure all waste is bagged properly in order to limit direct exposure of waste material to garbage collectors.

The Authority also advises double-bagging of waste for cleaning supplies, including tissues, paper towels and used gloves and masks.

According to the NSWMA, garbage receptacles should be placed outside only on designated collection days or, ideally, just before collection.

It notes also that waste should be properly secured to limit access by stray animals and rodents, and no human excrement should be disposed within bags containing household waste.
