Consultant Doctors Spending Insufficient Hours at the Hospital, Cabinet says

SLB-MSJMC

CABINET NOTES: The Cabinet has learned that the consultant doctors who are contracted to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) to provide service to patients, spend too few hours at the hospital daily.

A discussion is to begin to ensure that the doctors provide as many hours at the hospital that their contracts dictate.

The object is to ensure that more doctors are present over more hours at the hospital, in order to improve services to the public.

Every effort is being made to continuously improve the services which the SLBMC offers, and doctors are absolutely essential to maximizing these efforts.

  1. They should also look into the HR department. I’ve seen person go public anonymously on more than one occasion. Up at SLBMC is ran by nepotism. The hospital don’t have money, but the first thing that was done, was to hire a bunch of person. They need to send an auditor to the hospital, have townhall meeting and hear the cry of the employees. It’s the first time I’ve seen folks this disgruntled and posting on social media this fast. We crying for somebody to just listen and act on it.

  2. The hospital in Antigua should consult with my brother, an amazing Medical Doctor. I think utilizing experts like these with advance degrees in fields like medicine, and law is highly beneficial to Antigua and Barbuda.

I just got an expedite request for immigration benefits for an Antiguan by simply arguing how horrible the medical service is at the government’s hospital and they agreed and expedited my client’s immigration benefits. This is not the first time and it is the truth.

Look at the humanitarian parole (travel document) granted to my client, which is published on my WhatsApp channel. That was literally the argument made for that client also.

  3. If this is the case and the Cabinet can prove such, through documentation then why not charge those doctors with fraud. I’m quite sure that the invoices which they submitted for payment are over exaggerated and false. They committed fraud and should be charged with FRAUD.

  4. The entire system exploit the workers, some staff and many doctors are over worked and underpaid. Then there’s the elite group, gets all the benefits, high salary, all the promotion, friends of the hr being placed in positions that was never advertised. SLBMC needs an entire audit, NOW. Yall need to look into the entire systems, processes, salary for medical and non medical staff, fix the culture of nepotism and favouritism. This is the worst management. Unless you’re not close to the hr team, you will be shunned, will never be heard and complaints will always fall on deaf ears. The workers are crying out, somebody do something PLEASE

  5. No one is overworked at the hospital. They do as little work as possible. Most of the time there isn’t a doctor in sight. When you try and make an appt with a doctor they ENCOURAGE you to see them in their private practices where they charge $250+ for a consultation. If you insist on seeing them at the hospital you have to wait months for an appt. Something is broken.

  6. It’s really sad having to be told I have to discuss with my consultant and sane is done over the phones, no actual assessment done physically by that consultant. Then the so called consultant comes in the morning for one-two minutes at the bedside, peeps at you for the 1-2 minutes n walks off. But collecting loads at month and the poor Nurses who do all the dutty work scrapping thru.

  7. Glad that, at long last, this unethical, almost criminal practice is to be’ further investigated. If the unfortunate victims of the system were to be given a voice, the sad tale would give an unfurnished picture of the true goings-on at the SLBMC!!! But we are poor and afraid of the alternative!
