Superintendent Eugene Phillip of Her majesty’s Prison received a timely donation from one of the country’s local businesses within the private sector.

On Friday 4th October 2019, the Westrading Co.Ltd presented a Dab branded water pump to Her Majesty’s Prisons. The water pump which pushes one (1) horsepower was presented to the Superintendent of Prisons who gladly received the donation and thanked Westrading for making such a valuable and meaningful contribution to the country’s sole Correctional Facility.

Westrading’s representative Troy Sears was assigned with the  task of handing over the item and expressed how gratified Westrading Co.Ltd was in being able to make this donation to Her Majesty’s Prisons. Stating the importance of giving back to society, Sears mentioned that Westrading found it fitting to donate a water pump of this caliber to the prison to assist in increasing the quality and quantity of sourcing potable water and supplying the facility with adequate water necessary for operating such a major facility.

Antigua and Barbuda’s geographical location places the islands in a drought vulnerable region. Therefore, the government and the private sector have invested heavily in sourcing equipment and resources  as it relates to storing and supplying water to its population during its drought seasons. The new addition of the Dab water pump will enable the prison to speed up the water supply to the prisons water storage units and generate a steady supply of water throughout the facility daily.

  1. When you give anything to a government institution such as the Prison, Fiennes Institutes, Clare Vue or even police you need to make sure that the items are there a month from now or more. Cause experience have thought me that items donated to many of these institutions just disappear after a while. And Fines seems to be one of the major culprit. The many donations made over the years by Stanford and other private companies or citizens are just vanishing. Mobile Flood Lights donated to the Fire Department seems to have end up in use at various functions like church functions and sailing week. Vehicles donated to the Royal Police Force seems to also end up being used as normal transportation not marked with the sign of the Royal Police Force. That is why it was not surprising to me when buses donated by South Korea for the use as School buses ended up as party buses and one even as an entertainment bus. I believe that when you make a donation, you should have the right to ask about it and for persons to be accountable to you when you want to inspect it. Cause that pump may end up at someone’s home.

    • It is true about missing items when donated to any government institutions would disappeared in employee homes.
I remembered the former American Bases in Coolidge used to donated a lot in sheet-sets, towels, mattresses, food items, toiletries, etc… to several government institutions like the Hospital, Fiennes, Crazy House, etc… These items would disappeared from these institutions in less than a month.
