Prime Minister Gaston Browne is calling on residents to take pride in their communities and actively contribute to maintaining a clean environment. The appeal follows a successful community clean-up organized by members of St. John’s City West community yesterday morning.
Expressing concern over the diminishing pride in the surroundings, Prime Minister Browne emphasized that citizens have been neglecting their civic duty, evident in the improper disposal and dumping of garbage in public spaces.
“We continue to violate our environment by the dumping and harvesting of garbage in our surroundings,” stated PM Browne during his radio show.

Encouraging a shift in behavior, Prime Minister Browne urged individuals to take responsibility for their waste, emphasizing the need to eliminate littering and properly dispose of garbage. He proposed the reinforcement of teaching civic duty in schools at both the primary and secondary levels and advocated for public education campaigns to instill a sense of civic pride.
Reflecting on his childhood experiences with his specially-abled mother, PM Browne shared that littering was strictly prohibited in his home, reinforcing the idea of respecting green spaces. He called on property owners to maintain cleanliness on their premises, indicating that legislation is in the works to address environmental concerns related to unkept houses and lands.
Prime Minister Browne also directed attention to the issue of derelict vehicles on the roads, urging the Central Board of Health (CBH) to collaborate in keeping such vehicles off the streets. While stressing the importance of enforcing existing environmental laws, PM Browne proposed the creation of committees and the collaboration of community groups to organize clean-up initiatives, tree planting, and beautification projects.

We are not impressed. They pile up the bulk waste but won’t pay solid waste workers and vendors to haul it. Now that make sense?
Trying his best to make Antigua beautiful for his diplomatic friends who will be pouring in next year for his conference. He’s not doing it for us. Trying to save face. Now he wants us all to do what should be done daily in a normal society. Good luck Mr. PM.
All of them trying hard to copy Richard Lewis from Shawn Benjamin to Gaston Browne
King Charles must have Scheduled a secret visit that Gatson alone know about.
I hope he goes all out and cleanup the entire island, especially the entire town.
Charge and send those who litter to do community service, take their pictures and post them up on the news and social media, shame on them.
Take their pictures and post them up on the news and social media, shame on them.
Someone wanted to know who the backhoes working on government jobs belong to. Gaston told us on his show on Saturday that they belong to family members and friends. Do you think the government owes their friends and family members? Ordinary Antiguans have never had it so hard. All the money going in one direction. If they are lucky to get a job from government they don’t get paid. Pity Antiguans as they keep voting labour.
How about Solid Waste remove all the vehicles that have already been marked for disposal for years!!!???
It is a burning shame how the country is dirty. We all need to take pride and keep our space/ our country tidy. The way in which we litter is appalling. What came as a shock to me is that Solid Waste has indicated that they do not puck up bulk waste from people’s homes now; they gave to do so privately. What happens to the waste of people who cannot afford to pay? Do we then wander why the country is so dirty? St. John’s us a mess. As a citizen I am so ashamed. We all need to do better. Persons need to be held accountable for littering. If there are laws, they are not enforced.
