Committal Hearing Delayed Again for Woman Accused in Teenage Cyclist’s Fatal Accident

The committal hearing for Keithanya Elvin, a young woman accused of fatally endangering a teenage cyclist through dangerous driving, faces yet another delay, marking the twelfth postponement in the case.

Elvin, a Gunthorpes resident, was charged last year with causing the death of 16-year-old Azorae Pennant from Roman Hill due to her alleged dangerous driving.

The tragic incident occurred on January 26, 2022, on Tyrells Main Road.

That evening, the teenager was heading north on the bustling highway shortly before 6:30 pm. Elvin, driving a Honda CRV in the opposite direction, attempted a right turn, leading to a collision.

In an effort to avoid the crash, the cyclist swerved but ultimately collided with the vehicle and was thrown into the path of a pickup truck.

The young boy was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries and was pronounced dead approximately an hour later.

In her most recent court appearance before Magistrate Dexter Wason, Elvin was informed of another delay, extending the wait until December 7, to determine whether her case will proceed to the High Court.
